Job Description:
Manufacturing Engineer Sioux Falls, SD Introduction The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading and improving both manufacturing engineering processes and the company's quality management system. This position drives operational excellence by optimizing production workflows, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining compliance with internal and external quality standards. This role serves as the key liaison between Engineering, Production, and Quality functions to ensure product integrity, efficiency, safety, cost control, and customer satisfaction. The position combines hands-on engineering expertise with quality system leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Engineering & Process Improvement Review upcoming production and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and reports. Analyze manufacturing processes and implement workflow improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and cost effectiveness. Lead continuous improvement initiatives (LEAN principles preferred). Design and develop manufacturing aids, jigs, fixtures, and process improvements. Coordinate engineering changes and ensure clear communication to production teams. Conduct production performance analysis (routings, bottlenecks, efficiencies). Investigate production issues, complaints, and process shortfalls and implement corrective actions. Participate in design reviews and recommend design modifications for manufacturability. Collaborate with Engineering and Production to implement standardized assembly instructions and procedures. Manage projects related to process improvements and engineering changes. Develop, implement, and maintain the company Quality Management System (QMS). Maintain and update quality manuals, procedures, and documentation. Administer the Corrective Action Report (CAR) system; evaluate root causes and verify sustainability of corrective actions. Conduct and/or oversee internal audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. Lead annual management review process and prepare quality performance summaries. Monitor quality performance metrics and report results to leadership. Collaborate with Purchasing to ensure vendor quality performance meets accreditation requirements. Oversee welder qualifications, calibration systems, and quality documentation controls. Interpret specifications and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory standards. Serve as liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality. Guide and manage employees by setting expectations, coaching, and providing leadership to continuous improvement teams. Assist managers and supervisors with compliance to quality and manufacturing standards. Coordinate quality and process training programs and evaluate effectiveness. Build relationships with customers, vendors, consultants, and industry organizations. Ensure customer concerns, discrepancies, and nonconformances are addressed promptly and effectively.
Qualifications:
5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience preferred. 2+ years of quality assurance or quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment. Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality, Welding, or related field preferred. LEAN Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred. Experience in metal fabrication and mechanical equipment manufacturing preferred. Strong knowledge of production processes, blueprints, welding standards (AWS/CWB), and quality control systems. Experience with BOMs, routings, and standard cost environments. Proficiency in 2D/3D design software (Inventor preferred). Strong project management capabilities.
