Description:
Snap-on is looking for a highly motivated engineer to create manufacturing equipment and processes for Hand Tool Manufacturing. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to building a world class manufacturing facility right here in the beautiful Eastern Tennessee area. Snap-on is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on building exciting products.
Responsibilities Roles and Responsibilities:
This position applies technical knowledge and expertise in the development and implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, procedures and equipment. Ensure that the design specifications and procurement of manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures etc. meet company requirements and objectives. Manufacturing Engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will work closely with Design Engineering, Quality and Production to take design changes and new Tool designs from initial concept through prototype development and into full production.
Equipment Development and Implementation:
Design of manufacturing processes. Collaboration with small teams on in-house development of novel and complex manufacturing equipment. Specification development for manufacturing equipment. Close collaboration with external equipment suppliers on equipment design. Management of external equipment suppliers from equipment development through buyoff. Validation and characterization of new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor. Partner with maintenance in root cause analysis of down equipment. Develop and implement changes to mitigate repetitive downtime. Partner with internal resources for in-house machinery upgrades and rebuilds. Understand usage and implementation of robots (Fanuc preferred). Use knowledge to identify areas where automation can be utilized to achieve increased productivity.
Process Development and Implementation:
Development of new manufacturing processes. Creation of detailed Manufacturing Instructions to define new processes and document new equipment operation. Training of technicians and line operators on manufacturing processes. Design of production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency. Performance of process analysis and capacity modeling. Deployment of statistical control for key processes.
Skills and Experience:
Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (Catia preferred, SolidWorks is also a plus). Proven Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience in CNC metal machining processes using CNC vertical machining centers and CNC lathes Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines. Exemplary verbal and written communication skills. Well organized with meticulous attention to detail.
Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project Qualifications Qualifications:
BS/MS in Engineering Discipline 3+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing engineer working in a manufacturing environment 2-4 years of experience in CNC machining, CNC programming and cutting tool selection Experience with the selection of machining equipment
