Job Title:
Fixture Design Engineer Job Description The Fixture Design Engineer transforms proof-of-concept ideas into practical, buildable fixtures and tools used in a manufacturing environment. This hands-on, build-focused role involves designing workstations, fixtures, and gauges that can be fabricated and deployed on the production floor, ensuring they are efficient, ergonomic, and easy for production teams to use. Responsibilities Take conceptual ideas and develop them into detailed fixture and tooling designs suitable for real-world manufacturing use. Create accurate CAD models and detailed drawings that can be fabricated and built on-site. Design and support workstations, fixtures, and go/no-go gauges that enhance production efficiency and quality. Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are functional, user-friendly, and aligned with operational needs. Support the implementation, testing, and deployment of fixtures and tools on the production floor. Identify and drive improvements in fixture and tooling designs to increase efficiency, repeatability, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with engineering, production, and fabrication teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and robust. Apply hands-on engineering skills to troubleshoot, refine, and optimize fixtures and workstations after deployment. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience designing fixtures, tooling, or workstations in a manufacturing environment. Strong CAD proficiency using SolidWorks or similar 3D design software. Experience designing for fabrication and real-world build environments, including consideration of manufacturability and assembly. Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on engineering approach. Ability to work directly and effectively with production teams and technicians. Solid understanding of mechanical design principles as applied to fixtures and tooling. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience designing gauges, inspection tooling, or go/no-go fixtures. Experience supporting production environments or shop floor builds. Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly. Experience designing fixtures and workstations with a focus on efficiency and ergonomics in production settings. Ability to collaborate across engineering, production, and fabrication functions to refine and improve designs. Work Environment This role operates in a manufacturing environment with a strong emphasis on hands-on, build-focused engineering. You will spend significant time on the production floor working closely with fabrication, assembly, and production teams to deploy and refine fixtures, workstations, and gauges. The environment involves working around typical manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly, and requires comfort in a shop-floor setting where practical, real-world solutions are prioritized.
