Job Description
Position Summary MasterCraft Boat Holdings is seeking a Design Engineer to support the development of new and innovative recreational marine products. This role contributes directly to product performance, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The Design Engineer will work cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Customer Service, Sales, and Engineering teams to develop reliable, manufacturable, and high-performing mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver with strong mechanical fundamentals and a desire to grow within a marine product development environment. - Key Responsibilities Mechanical Design & System Development Define requirements and component specifications for mechanical systems, including propellers, rudders, tracking fins, propeller shafts, and shaft struts. Conceive and develop new mechanical components and system designs focused on customer convenience, performance, and efficient manufacturability. Support engineering analyses and documentation, including DFMEA, DVP&R, and manufacturing feasibility studies. Generate engineering drawings for new designs and approve prints for production release. Interface with propulsion and project engineering groups to support system layout and integration. Perform final mechanical design verification testing. - Testing, Validation & Issue Resolution Participate in on-water product performance validation (approximately 10% of time). Support evaluation of handling, propulsion performance, and system functionality. Address engine warranty issues through root cause analysis and design improvements. Analyze test and field data to support continuous product improvement. - Standards Compliance, Documentation & Change Management Ensure components and systems comply with applicable marine industry standards, including ABYC and ISO requirements. Provide technical expertise to ensure consistency in engineering documentation, methods, and best practices. Generate and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as required. Attend ABYC certification classes and remain current on relevant standards and regulations. Ensure timely and complete execution of all applicable project phases. - Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Support Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Customer Service, Sales, and Engineering teams to support product development and launch activities. Conduct product research on mechanical equipment and components. Research and integrate new equipment designs and technologies as industry trends evolve. Facilitate training sessions for assembly personnel on new designs, construction requirements, and sound manufacturing practices aligned with MasterCraft Boat Holdings standards. Interface effectively with internal teams, outside vendors, dealers, and retail customers. - Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 0-5 years of experience in the marine industry; recreational boat experience preferred. ABYC certification preferred. Licensed or able to be licensed to operate a powerboat. Technical & Professional Skills Experience with engineering tools such as FEA, NX, and Excel.
