III. POSITION SUMMARY
Without supervision, provide manufacturing engineering support for new and existing production in terms of manufacturing and testing equipment, equipment controls, handling and mold tooling, HSE, materials and process needs. Products include compression and injected molded rubber components for shock and vibration isolation mounts, laminated elastomer bearings, industrial clutch and brakes, and elastomeric seals. Must be innovative and actively involved in the development of new products and fabrication methods. Requires coordination with operations, design engineering, quality and project management. Direct interface with tooling and equipment vendors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Proficient in developing manufacturing processes for existing and new products and document with manufacturing specifications, shop travelers and manufacturing inspection planning Lead activities in planning future plant and facility needs and optimize current process flow to improve efficiency in all aspects of production and operational processes Lead activities for the design, build, and qualification of new mold tooling and processing equipment Lead activities in resolving issues regarding molding, build-up, test and assembly, bonding, spraying and cleaning Lead analysis of equipment, component, and process failures. Create failure reports and resolution plans Manage and report status of production tooling and schedule rework or replacement as needed Lead the design and fabrication of a range of test equipment including hydraulics, mechanical, and control systems Actively develop new tooling related fabrication vendors/machine shops Manage MRB cause and corrective activities Develop and implement HSE procedures for all aspects of manufacturing and train production personnel in the proper application of HSE and manufacturing procedures Advanced Proficiency with elastomer processing characteristics and properties Mentor team members Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
: BS in Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of related experience; or MS degree in Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of related experience; At least 10 years of related experience without a degree.
Advanced experience in:
(a) manufacturing engineering direct support and (b) Product engineering Advanced experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD Advanced understanding of metal properties (yield/machinability/weldability/hardenability) Advanced experience with polymer based materials and associated molding processes Must be able to work independently, handle multiple tasks/projects, and train others. Advanced experience with the process of conceptualizing new tooling and equipment and produce fully realized and functional designs with drawings, proper strength rating, and operation procedures. Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills. Occasional travel, including international travel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Use of a computer, including a telephone and other office equipment Prolonged sitting and standing Moderate bending, stooping, walking, climbing stairs Some limited lifting Some climbing, elevated work Some exposure to hot/cold production environments Must be able to work in high and/or low temperature production environments for extended periods.
