Requirements:
Metal fabrication, Project Management, LEAN, troubleshooting, hands on production floor, metal working equipment Position Overview We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer with metal fabrication experience to optimize production of steel and metal components. The role focuses on developing robust processes, improving manufacturing equipment and workflows, and driving quality and continuous improvement initiatives across welding, sawing, roll forming, punching, cutting, laser and CNC operations. You will combine technical problem solving, SolidWorks-driven design for manufacturability, and Lean methods to reduce cost, improve throughput, and ensure consistent part quality (holes, etched features, fasteners, assemblies). Key Responsibilities Design, document and optimize fabrication processes for steel and metal parts, including welding, sawing, roll forming, punching, cutting, laser and CNC operations. Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for production issues; implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and scrap. Develop and maintain work instructions, process flows, tooling and fixtures using SolidWorks and production drawings to ensure manufacturability and repeatability. Implement Lean and continuous improvement projects (5S, kaizen, SMED, value stream mapping) to reduce cycle time, increase yield and lower cost. Collaborate with maintenance and equipment vendors to specify, install and validate machinery and process controls for stamping, roll forming, laser cutting, CNC machining and welding cells. Set and monitor process and quality metrics; conduct capability studies, first article inspections and process validation for features such as holes, etched details and fastener locations. Train production teams and operators on process changes, safe equipment operation and quality expectations; create training materials and standard operating procedures. Work cross-functionally with design engineering, quality, purchasing and suppliers to resolve design-for-manufacturing issues, control material specifications and manage fasteners and purchased components. Support new product introductions: develop process plans, run trials, optimize parameters and sign off production readiness. Champion continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, safety, and environmental compliance while maintaining high quality standards. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience in metal fabrication/manufacturing. 3+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering within steel/metal fabrication environments working with welding, roll forming, punching, sawing, cutting, laser and CNC equipment. Proven experience with Project Management including troubleshooting production equipment, process improvement and Lean methodologies (continuous improvement, kaizen, SMED). Excellent problem-solving, project management and communication skills with the ability to train and lead cross-functional teams.
