Job Description
About Torus Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 540,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. Our mission is to build the world's first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last. At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter. About the Role As Manufacturing Engineering Lead you'll be the technical anchor for one of Torus's core product lines. You'll own the day-to-day engineering execution on the manufacturing floor — fielding technical questions as they arise, solving process problems in real time, driving design-to-manufacturing transitions, and keeping projects moving. This is a hands-on, in-the-work role. You're the person engineers and production turn to first when something needs a technical answer, and you take pride in being that resource. You'll work alongside a team of manufacturing engineers on the line, with your impact measured by the quality, reliability, and throughput of what gets built. Responsibilities Serve as the go-to technical resource on the manufacturing line, fielding engineering questions and resolving issues as they arise in real time Own day-to-day engineering execution on the line — keeping projects on track, removing blockers, and maintaining momentum Lead process development, documentation, and continuous improvement efforts for assembly, test, and production Drive design-for-manufacturability (DFM) feedback and ensure smooth transitions from R&D and product engineering into production Own and maintain critical manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process specs, BOMs, and engineering change orders Identify and resolve technical problems that affect throughput, quality, or safety. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production Operations Support capacity planning, tooling and equipment decisions, and capital project scoping. Other duties and projects as assigned Required Experience 6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or senior individual contributor capacity Demonstrated experience with complex electromechanical or rotating machinery assembly and production processes Proven ability to lead technical work across a team — setting direction, reviewing output, and holding the line on quality and timelines Strong hands-on problem-solving skills with experience using structured methodologies (8D, FMEA, root cause analysis) Proficiency with engineering documentation systems and change management processes Experience driving design-to-manufacturing transitions and collaborating directly with product or R&D engineering teams Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field Preferred Experience Experience with flywheel, rotating energy storage, or high-speed electromechanical systems Experience with fabrication, machining, and/or electrical manufacturing processes Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD/PDM tools Experience in a high-growth or startup manufacturing environment Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma training or certification NetSuite or similar ERP system experience You'll be a great fit at Torus if you're motivated by building durable systems and taking responsibility for how they perform in the field. This role is well suited for an engineer who enjoys working through ambiguity, collaborating closely across teams, and solving practical problems that directly impact product reliability and performance. If you take pride in thoughtful design, clear documentation, and seeing your work move from concept to deployment, you'll find meaningful long-term impact here.
