Manufacturing Engineer Job Description This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on driving manufacturing excellence by optimizing production processes, enhancing productivity, and ensuring that quality standards are consistently met. You will support continuous improvement initiatives, apply lean manufacturing principles, and help shape efficient and reliable manufacturing operations, particularly within a metals manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Analyze existing manufacturing and fabrication processes to identify opportunities for improvement in productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Develop, optimize, and document manufacturing processes, including detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures. Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies to reduce waste, improve flow, and increase overall operational efficiency. Use SolidWorks and CAMWorks to design, modify, and maintain tooling, fixtures, and process-related models for machining and fabrication operations. Program, review, and troubleshoot G-code for machining operations to ensure accurate, efficient, and safe machine performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams in engineering, production, and quality to resolve manufacturing issues and implement process improvements. Support metals manufacturing operations by selecting appropriate tooling, methods, and process parameters for machining and fabrication. Monitor and analyze production performance data to identify trends, root causes, and corrective actions for process-related problems. Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with internal quality standards and support continuous improvement of product quality. Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel on new or updated processes, work instructions, and equipment usage. Participate in or lead continuous improvement and Six Sigma initiatives to drive measurable gains in quality, throughput, and cost reduction. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including process flows, work instructions, and tooling specifications. Essential Skills Manufacturing or process engineering experience within a manufacturing facility. Strong background in manufacturing engineering, including process development and optimization. Hands-on experience with metals manufacturing, machining, and fabrication processes. Proficiency with SolidWorks and CAMWorks software for modeling, tooling design, and process support. Knowledge of G-code programming with the ability to troubleshoot machining programs and resolve issues. Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization techniques. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies and process improvement initiatives. Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts and tools for quality and process improvement. Excellent problem-solving skills with a structured and analytical approach. High attention to detail in process design, documentation, and quality control. Ability to create clear, accurate work instructions and process documentation. Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience designing and optimizing tooling and fixtures for machining and fabrication operations. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering, production, and quality. Strong communication skills to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical team members. Demonstrated ability to support continuous improvement projects from concept through implementation. Comfort working with data and metrics to evaluate process performance and drive decision-making. Work Environment This role operates within a manufacturing facility, with regular interaction on the production floor in a metals manufacturing environment involving machining and fabrication processes. You will work closely with engineering and production teams, using tools such as SolidWorks, CAMWorks, and CNC equipment programmed with G-code. The position typically follows standard full-time working hours, with periods spent both at a computer for design and documentation and in the shop area for process observation, troubleshooting, and implementation of improvements. Appropriate safety practices and personal protective equipment are required when working in production areas. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Milwaukee, WI.
