Job Description

Position Summary The Positraction Unit Builder is responsible for the hands-on assembly, inspection, and testing of limited slip differential (positraction) carriers used in performance, off-road, and street drivetrain applications. This role requires precision mechanical assembly skills and a thorough understanding of differential components, torque specifications, and quality standards. The ideal candidate takes pride in building performance-grade drivetrain products that meet or exceed OEM tolerances. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assemble clutch-style and helical-type positraction/limited slip differential carriers from component parts, including bevel gears, spider gear sets, side gears, pinion gears, clutch packs, springs, cross-pin shafts, roll pins, and thrust washers. Read and interpret assembly work orders, engineering drawings, and build specifications to ensure correct configuration by vehicle application, axle spline count, gear ratio, and carrier series. Install and properly seat Raybestos composite clutch pack assemblies and verify spring preload settings to specification. Machine or inspect internal gears fabricated from forged steel for correct tooth profile, surface finish, and dimensional tolerances. Perform torque-to-turn breakaway testing and backlash verification on completed assemblies to confirm proper clutch pack engagement and lockup characteristics. Conduct visual and dimensional inspection of all components prior to assembly; reject non-conforming parts per quality control procedures. Maintain accurate production records, traveler documents, and serialization logs. Operate hand tools, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Follow all workplace safety protocols including PPE requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and proper lifting techniques. Keep work area clean and organized; perform routine equipment maintenance as assigned. Collaborate with QC inspectors and engineering staff to resolve assembly issues and implement process improvements. Meet daily production targets while maintaining zero-defect quality standards. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum 1-2 years of experience in mechanical assembly, drivetrain/differential repair, or automotive manufacturing. Working knowledge of limited slip differential components and assembly principles (clutch-type, helical, or locker-style).
Proficiency with precision measuring tools:
torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Ability to read and follow assembly work instructions, technical drawings, and bill of materials (BOM) documents. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods in a production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience assembling GM, Ford, or Chrysler/Mopar differential carriers (e.g., GM 8.5"/8.6", GM 12-bolt, Ford 8.8", Chrysler 9.25"). Familiarity with performance drivetrain brands and products (Yukon Gear & Axle, Eaton, Auburn Gear, etc.). Experience in a lean manufacturing or ISO-certified production environment. Automotive vocational training or ASE certification (Drivetrain/Axles - T4 or equivalent). Experience with forged steel component handling and identification.
