Job Title:
Production Technician - Grit Blasting and Coating Preparation Job Description The Production Technician supports manufacturing operations by preparing, inspecting, and processing components through grit blasting, coating preparation, brazing, and heat treatment. This role uses a variety of hand and power tools, precision measuring equipment, and production machinery to ensure components meet technical specifications and quality standards. The technician works in a clean, organized, climate-controlled production environment and collaborates closely with other technicians and operators to maintain efficient, safe, and high-quality output. Responsibilities Visually inspect serial numbers and part condition to verify that components are acceptable for processing. Interpret findings from inspection and documentation activities and respond according to established procedures and work instructions. Track and manage tooling and consumable inventories to ensure availability for production needs. Perform liquid and tape masking on components using various tools and equipment according to work instructions and drawings to maintain coating allowances. Perform manual and robotic pre-process grit blasting for thermal spray on components according to specifications and accurately interpret results. Use precision measuring equipment to verify work, record measurements, and maintain accurate records in electronic databases. Conduct in-process inspections on your own work and the work of others before parts move to the next operation. Operate controls on atmospheric and vacuum furnaces under direct supervision, including loading and unloading your own work. Apply knowledge of loading configurations and AMS2750 requirements for furnaces and use job aids appropriately. Assist operators with setting up their equipment and support maintenance of tooling as needed. Operate small cranes and forklifts to move equipment, parts, and materials safely within the facility. Complete data entry and confirmation of required quality and production documentation in the appropriate systems. Report and monitor abnormal production times for each production step to support continuous improvement and scheduling accuracy. Independently carry out assigned technician tasks and independently correct non-conforming hardware during the reconditioning process where applicable. Support thermal spray booth operations under direct supervision and build experience in coating-related processes. Train entry-level technicians in coating preparation, brazing, and heat treatment processes, including proper use of tools and equipment. Set up and install brazing equipment according to process requirements and safety guidelines. Execute brazing requirements on gas turbine components according to technical specifications for joining and putty braze. Perform grinding and blasting of components for braze preparation in line with specifications and quality standards. Advise on and participate in the design and fabrication of brazing tools and fixtures when required. Operate and maintain power tools such as die grinders, right-angle grinders, and belt sanders for grinding, polishing, and finishing operations. Apply appropriate grinding, polishing, and finishing techniques using abrasive wheels, belts, discs, and related materials. Support painting and coating preparation activities, including spray booth operations and paint prep as needed. Work with hand and power tools for tasks such as drilling, blasting, coating prep, and other mechanical operations associated with production. Rotate between different departments to develop a broad range of manufacturing skills and support overall production needs. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED. At least 2 years of manufacturing experience with specific skills in one or more of the following: grinding, blending coatings, coatings application, coatings removal (strip line), blasting, heat treat, machining, welding, or a similar skill set. At least 2 years of experience interpreting technical drawings or work instructions. At least 2 years of experience in a production or maintenance environment. Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and workflow in an industrial setting. Minimum of 6 months of sandblasting or grit blasting experience. Hands-on experience with power tools such as die grinders, right-angle grinders, and belt sanders. Experience with grinding, polishing, and finishing techniques on metal or similar components. Good knowledge of abrasive materials including wheels, belts, and discs. Basic proficiency with MS Office programs and ability to use SAP, timekeeping applications, and electronic folder structures. Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with hand and power tools on a daily basis. Ability to operate or learn to operate small cranes and forklifts safely (training may be provided). Ability to follow detailed work instructions, technical specifications, and quality standards accurately. Strong attention to detail for inspection, measurement, and documentation tasks. Ability to perform physical tasks typical of a production environment, including standing for extended periods and handling components and equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with thermal spray booth operations under direct supervision. Experience with painting and coating processes, including spray gun or spray paint operations and paint prep. Experience in manufacturing, assembly, auto body repair, fiberglass work, or woodworking. Experience with spray booth operations, powder coating, or powder coat preparation. Exposure to heat treat or heat-treating processes in a production environment. Experience with coating, blasting, sandblasting, and related surface preparation methods. Familiarity with machining, welding, or similar metalworking skills. Experience with grinding and blasting for braze preparation according to specification. Experience executing brazing requirements on gas turbine or similar components is a plus. Ability to contribute ideas to the design and fabrication of brazing tools and fixtures. Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment with documented procedures and quality requirements. Willingness to train others and share knowledge with entry-level technicians. Ability to adapt to rotating assignments across different departments to gain diverse skills. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a very organized and clean manufacturing and production warehouse environment with air conditioning throughout the facility. The primary opening is on 1st shift, and there is also a schedule consisting of Friday through Sunday, working three 12-hour shifts (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., total of 36 hours) with pay rates adjusted to approximate a 40-hour workweek, and overtime paid at 1.5 times the base rate for hours over 40. Candidates must be willing to commit to at least 3 months of training on a Monday-Thursday 1st shift schedule before transferring to the weekend shift. The facility operates as an AC production warehouse with well-defined processes, job aids, and safety standards. The role involves working around production equipment such as furnaces, grit blasting systems, thermal spray booths, brazing equipment, small cranes, and forklifts, as well as using a wide range of hand and power tools. Safety shoes rated by ASTM F 2413-05 orANSI Z41-1999
with I/C (impact/compression), EH (electrical hazard), and SD (static dissipative) ratings are required, along with steel-toe protection. A clothing allowance is provided for pants, steel-toed boots, and shirts, supporting a practical and safe dress code. Employees rotate between different departments to gain diverse skills and experience while working in a structured, team-oriented production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jupiter, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
