Job Description

Title:
Traveling Production Technician Location:
Chicago Area, Illinois OR SF Bay Area, California As a Traveling Production Technician at Vertosa, you'll step into a hands-on, field-based role that is both demanding and critical to our production success across multiple markets. This position requires a high level of travel, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to execute consistently in dynamic, real-world production environments. You'll be boots on the ground using cutting-edge technology to support the development of a new consumer product category poised to rival the mainstream food and beverage industry. As someone who can tackle complex production work and troubleshoot real-world challenges, you'll produce the active ingredients behind some of the most innovative products in the cannabis and hemp industry. Although you'll often work autonomously in the field, you'll be supported by a collaborative team that embraces change, faces challenges head-on, and invests in your growth. In the first year, you will have the opportunity to: Execute production at Vertosa-operated facilities and partner locations across the United States, following SOPs and a defined mobile manufacturing process to consistently deliver high-quality, on-spec products in regulated environments. Set up, validate, and operate mobile lab systems at partner facilities, ensuring equipment, materials, and site conditions are ready to support efficient and compliant production. Confirm all active and inactive ingredients meet QA/QC standards prior to production, and maintain strict adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory requirements throughout each run. Adapt production execution to new and changing facility environments while maintaining Vertosa's standard operating procedures and quality standards. Accurately document all production activities, including batch records, labeling, and digital logs, ensuring full compliance with internal systems, client needs, and regulatory requirements. Troubleshoot equipment and operational issues within trained scope, and escalate more complex challenges to protect product quality and equipment integrity. Take full ownership of mobile lab teardown, packing, and outbound shipment procedures, ensuring all equipment and materials are secured and ready for the next deployment. Serve as Vertosa's on-site representative, maintaining professionalism, clear communication, and a safe, compliant working environment at partner facilities. Exercise sound judgment in the field by halting production, rejecting materials, or escalating issues when quality, safety, or compliance standards are at risk. Take direction from operations leadership across markets while owning the execution of assigned activities to ensure consistent, efficient, and compliant production. Travel frequently to partner facilities across multiple markets to execute production and support operational needs.
Physical & Travel Demands:
Travel a minimum of 50% and up to 75% of a given month, with trips ranging from one to two weeks to partner facilities across multiple markets. Workdays vary based on travel schedules, facility access, and production demands, with extended days that may reach up to 12 hours during active production runs. This role requires the ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods, including standing, lifting, packing, setup, and teardown, and to safely lift and maneuver up to 80 lbs independently and up to 200 lbs with assistance.
Success in this role means:
Consistently operating with a high level of ownership, attention to detail, and resilience in physically demanding and fast-changing production environments. Being comfortable working independently in new environments while staying connected and proactively communicating with off-site team members and on-site partners. Adapting quickly, thinking on your feet, and maintaining a high standard of work across changing locations and conditions.
Qualifications:
Based in the Chicago Area or the SF Bay Area at the start of employment Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience in laboratory, cannabis production, or food manufacturing environments Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently execute complex procedures Experience with lab equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance Ability to work independently in high-paced and changing environments Proficiency with documentation and data tracking tools (e.g., spreadsheets, inventory systems, regulatory platforms) Valid driver's license, ability to operate a rental vehicle in the U.S., and valid passport, with the ability to travel and obtain required documentation for work across multiple regulated markets Ability to pass required background checks and obtain and maintain all necessary state and local regulatory badges or licenses to perform work in regulated cannabis or hemp markets; eligibility may be impacted by prior compliance or licensing history
Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly pay range: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour, based on experience Travel time is compensated at 75% of the standard hourly rate This is a non-exempt, hourly role eligible for overtime and double time in accordance with California wage-and-hour requirements. Company-covered travel expenses, including airfare, lodging, and ground transportation Daily meal allowance while traveling Why Vertosa?
