Job Description
Job Overview The Vertical Bagger Technician oversees a food production packaging line centered around a vertical bagger that operates up to 90 bags per minute. The Technician will set up the machine each morning for the product being ran that day (120 different products total). Set up includes lifting 50 pound rolls of film into the machine, programming scales and bagger for the days specifications and verifying with QA lot codes to be printed on all bags, among other tasks. On some days the vertical bagger will require different jaw assemblies which will require the technician to safely remove and install specific jaws. This requires mechanical aptitude. If you do not have the skills to use various tools to remove and install technical parts this job is not for you. Once the bagger is running, the Vertical Bagger Technician must watch the machine and make adjustments to ensure all bags are sealed properly, the machine is running as fast as possible, all bag weights are within specific limits, and that product lot codes are correct and visible on each bag. There are lots of things that can be adjusted in very small increments, so the Technician must be able to understand all the different settings and adjust accordingly. The finished bags of product are sorted and packed into boxes, taped closed using an automatic taper, a label is applied using an automatic label printer/applicator, and stacked. The Vertical Bagger Technician must keep an eye on these machines as well to ensure they have tape, labels, backing ribbon, and perform basic troubleshooting if there is an issue. Hours are typically 6am-3pm, with occasional 6am to 5pm based on production needs. Coloma Frozen Foods packages millions of frozen food packages that are shipped world wide. Food Safety always comes first. Skills Food production experience a plus. Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to operate hand tools effectively Familiarity with assembly line processes and manufacturing workflows Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety standards Physical stamina to stand, lift, bend, and move throughout shifts as required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
