You'll start on days, build confidence with hands-on instruction, and then transition to our night shift where you'll put your new skills to work. A day-in-the-life (after training) On nights (8:00 pm-6:00 am, 50 hours/week), you'll arrive to a well-prepped machine, verify bar stock and tooling, run sample parts, and fine-tune slides and holders to hit print. You'll monitor quality, track the causes of any defects, and perform tool changes, pickoff and cutoff adjustments, and routine upkeep of collets and pushers to keep production humming. What your first 4-6 weeks look like (day shift training) Orientation to Tornos screw machine anatomy and operating principles Mastering machine controls and performing basic preventive maintenance Preparing and loading bar stock; managing restock routines Root-causing quality issues and correcting out-of-tolerance conditions Swapping tools and dialing in slide movements for optimal performance Working with shaving tools, roller supports, and floating toolholders Servicing collets and pushers; replacing cutoff tooling safely Setting and adjusting pickoff and cutoff operations What you'll bring High school diploma or equivalent Willingness and availability to work night shift (8 pm-6 am, 50 hrs/week) after training Ability to complete and pass an onsite mechanical aptitude test Sharp attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship Strong mechanical aptitude and a love for hands-on problem solving Commitment to train on day shift for 4-6 weeks before moving to nights Backgrounds that translate well Automotive repair (brakes, oil changes, tire service) Drywall installation or other tool-forward trades Manual machining or shop experience Comfort with shop math and working in a manufacturing environment High School / GED If you're meticulous, curious, and ready to build a machining career, our Academy in Kentwood, MI will give you the skills to succeed.
