Job Description - Shop Technician IPS Position Summary The Capillary & TEC Line Shop Hand is responsible for the inspection, preparation, fabrication, documentation, and inventory management of capillary and Tubing Encapsulated Cable (TEC) lines used in field operations. This position ensures all line inventory is properly inspected, identified, documented, and prepared for deployment while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The Shop Hand also provides support for general shop activities and assists operations as required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safety and Quality Compliance Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work practices at all times. Comply with all quality standards, inspection requirements, and operational procedures established by the organization. Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and quality improvement initiatives. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, equipment deficiencies, or quality concerns to management. Inspection and Quality Control Inspect all new and used capillary and TEC lines received by the shop. Evaluate line condition for damage, corrosion, crushing, kinks, wear, or other defects that may affect serviceability. Perform visual and dimensional inspections in accordance with company procedures. Complete all required inspection, testing, and quality documentation for new and used line inventory. Ensure all inspection records are accurate, complete, and properly maintained for traceability purposes. Assist with pressure testing and other verification processes as required. Line Preparation and Fabrication Measure, cut, and prepare capillary and TEC lines to the lengths required for specific jobs and operational needs. Perform capillary line welding and related fabrication work as required by field operations. Inspect welded connections to verify compliance with company quality standards and customer requirements. Prepare spools and line assemblies for field deployment. Assist with the repair and reconditioning of serviceable line inventory when required. Inventory Management Assign spool identification numbers to all new and used capillary and TEC line inventory received by the shop. Properly tag and identify line inventory as approved for service, requiring repair, or rejected from service. Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure proper tracking of all line assets. Organize and store inventory in designated locations to maximize efficiency and accessibility. Assist with inventory counts, audits, and reconciliation activities as required. Shop and Operational Support Assist with loading, unloading, moving, and staging spools, equipment, and materials. Support field operations by preparing equipment and materials for upcoming jobs. Perform routine shop maintenance and housekeeping duties. Operate forklifts and other shop equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures. Assist with additional shop, maintenance, and operational tasks as assigned by management. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in oilfield operations, capillary line services, TEC services, manufacturing, fabrication, or shop environments preferred. Experience welding capillary line or performing similar precision welding activities preferred. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools, measuring devices, and inspection equipment. Ability to accurately complete inspection, testing, and inventory documentation. Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification preferred. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a shop environment for extended periods. Ability to safely handle spools, tools, equipment, and materials. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Key Performance Expectations Consistent compliance with all company safety and quality standards. Accurate completion of inspections, testing, and documentation. Proper identification, tagging, and tracking of inventory. High-quality preparation and welding of capillary and TEC lines. Maintenance of an organized, efficient, and safe shop environment.
