Job Title:
Manufacturing Technician Job Description The Manufacturing Technician supports the production of reagents, enzymes, buffers, and consumables used in next generation sequencing (NGS) platforms. This role executes defined manufacturing processes in a regulated biotechnology environment, ensuring product consistency, data integrity, and adherence to quality and safety standards. The technician acts as a flexible resource across production areas and contributes to the reliable manufacture of high-quality products. Responsibilities Execute manufacturing processes for NGS reagents, enzymes, buffers, and sequencing consumables in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and approved batch records. Prepare large-scale buffers and solutions using established formulations, accurate calculations, and controlled handling techniques. Support protein purification activities, including handling purification reagents and operating high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems. Provide hands-on manufacturing support for enzyme production, including cell growth and basic molecular biology techniques. Operate and maintain manufacturing and laboratory equipment such as pH meters and conductivity meters to ensure accurate measurements and reliable performance. Support validated scale-up activities and collaborate with cross-functional manufacturing teams to implement process improvements and new production initiatives. Perform routine equipment operation, cleaning, and verification in line with regulatory and quality requirements. Identify, document, and communicate process deviations that may impact product quality or performance, following established quality system procedures. Complete batch records and electronic documentation accurately and on time, in compliance with cGMP, ISO, and internal quality system requirements. Adhere to safety guidelines, contamination control standards, and cleanroom practices to maintain a controlled manufacturing environment. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. 0-2+ years of professional experience in manufacturing, production, laboratory, or regulated environments (GMP). Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and batch records with strong attention to detail. Basic understanding of chemistry, microbiology, or biology as applied in a manufacturing or laboratory setting. Familiarity with cGMP principles and working in a regulated manufacturing environment. Ability to work with manufacturing documentation, including batch records and electronic records, while maintaining data integrity. Comfort operating basic laboratory and manufacturing equipment, including pH and conductivity meters. Strong commitment to safety, contamination control, and quality standards. Ability to work effectively within a small team in a production or cleanroom environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific, technical, or manufacturing-related field preferred. Prior experience in cGMP, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, or life sciences manufacturing is a plus. Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment. Exposure to protein purification processes and operation of HPLC systems. Familiarity with pharmaceutical or pharmaceutical production environments. Experience working with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in a regulated setting. Understanding of production workflows for reagents, enzymes, and consumables used in NGS or related technologies. Work Environment This role is based in a laboratory and office environment, working closely with a small team of approximately 2-8 colleagues on a daily basis. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Work takes place in a regulated manufacturing setting that may include cleanroom areas, where adherence to safety, contamination control, and cGMP practices is essential. The environment involves routine use of laboratory and manufacturing equipment and requires careful handling of reagents, buffers, and related materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Madison, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.50 - $29.25/hr.
