SUMMARY The Manufacturing Technician
  • Secondary Operations plays an essential role in supporting Federal Tool & Engineering's production goals by performing assembly, secondary operations, finishing processes, part inspection, and basic machine operation in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This position handles moderately complex tasks while maintaining accuracy, quality, and safety. Technicians must demonstrate strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to follow established procedures and work instructions while upholding our core values of Safety First, Total Customer Satisfaction, Mutual Trust and Respect, and Integrity and Honesty. This is a 2nd shift position working Monday-Thursday, 3:00 PM-1:00 AM, and offers a $3.00 per hour shift premium. We also offer a sign-on bonus and health, dental, and vision benefits after 60 days of employment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. Perform assembly and subassembly of metal components following work instructions, prints, and quality standards. Set-up and operate secondary-operation equipment such as spot welders, robot welders, PEM insertion presses, riveters, and basic CNC secondary machines. Inspect parts for quality using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, ring gauges, and other precision measuring tools. Perform finishing processes including deburring, trimming, sorting, and packaging of components. Accurately document production, quality, and inventory information in accordance with company and ISO requirements. Follow proper machine start-up, shut-down, and safety procedures to ensure safe and consistent operation. Identify and report equipment or product issues and perform basic troubleshooting when trained. Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all safety policies, including safe handling of materials and chemicals. Assist engineering, setup personnel, and leadership in process improvements, prototype builds, or trial runs as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to support production schedules and customer requirements.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR 1-2
years of experience required; 2+ years preferred. Forklift experience preferred. Ability to read blueprints and apply basic metrology skills. Competence using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges. Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial reasoning. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
ISO 9001
experience preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent. Proficiency with basic math, reading, and computer skills.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
The physical demands described below represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Occasionally required to sit. Regularly required to walk, talk, listen, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach above shoulders. Frequently required to stand, use hands for handling or fine motor tasks, operate machinery, and move about the production area. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Regularly lift up to 50 lbs and frequently lift up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, varying temperatures, and loud noise levels.
