Position Supervised:
Vessel Engine and Deck Personnel on assigned vessels Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Experience One to three years of professional experience in engineering, maritime operations, or a related technical field. Maritime industry experience is a plus but not required. Languages English Traits Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with computers and able to quickly learn new software systems. Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to travel as necessary for vessel visits and projects. Self-starter with a professional demeanor who works well in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications Skills/Software Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams). Experience with Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE). Education Maritime academy graduate or degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or related maritime discipline. USCG engineering license.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Technical Superintendent supports the Technical Manager and Technical Superintendents in the day-to-day administration and technical oversight of the ATB fleet. The role involves hands-on involvement in fleet operations, planned maintenance tracking, drydock project support, regulatory compliance, and vendor coordination. The Assistant Technical Superintendent will independently manage assigned vessels while also contributing to departmental functions. Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist in ensuring vessel compliance with Fairwater Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) Policy and applicable Class, Statutory, and Company regulations. Monitor and track planned maintenance system (PMS) tasks for assigned vessels. Follow up on overdue work orders, generate reports, and assist superintendents with PMS data accuracy and completion rates. Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to assigned vessels, monitoring vessel performance and following up on maintenance tasks due. Reports directly to the Technical Manager on all vessel matters. Support the overall repair and maintenance management for assigned vessels, including routine voyage repairs, regulatory surveys, drydock events, emergencies, casualties, and modifications. Assist with drydock specification preparation, PMS data accuracy reviews, and technical documentation standards across the department. Maintain a professional working relationship with vessel officers and crew. Participate in vessel visits to assess condition and confirm compliance with Fairwater Operating Standards. Prepare Vessel Condition reports following visits. Assist and participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses. Maintain and organize technical files, including service reports, machinery history, certificates, and regulatory documentation. Support development of departmental reports and technical reference materials as needed. Travel in support of ship operations and vessel visits. Attend and document safety meetings, drydock progress reviews, and vendor coordination calls. Perform such other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as may be required or directed by the Technical Manager.
