MAPC has an opening for a full time (40hr/wk) Junior Naval Architect with an interest in unique vessel and ship system designs to work on diverse projects across the company portfolio. The preferred candidate will be capable of working with multi-disciplinary project teams with guidance from senior personnel.Salary Range:
$37.00 - $40.00Travel:
Yes. As needed, up to 5 trips a year (15 days total) Typical ship design work extends from concept studies through preliminary and contract design. Work products include arrangements, powering and propulsion studies, weight and stability considerations, ship wide trade studies, and seakeeping studies on crewed and uncrewed vessels from tens to hundreds of feet long. Marine systems work includes modifications to and service of existing systems in production at / by BlackSea; auxiliary systems concept, preliminary, and detail design and arrangement; and development of novel equipment and components for challenging marine environments. BlackSea is seeking a candidate who has existing knowledge and skills supporting many of these tasks and an interest in expanding their knowledge to solve novel problems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following engineering elements: 1. Independent solving of straightforward technical challenges. 2. Solving more complex technical problems with advice and guidance from more senior personnel when necessary. 3. Understanding first principles and how they relate to software analysis options; the strengths and weaknesses of each and knowing when and where to use them. 4. Having an intuition of when a technical problem is converging positively and when to change approach for better results. 5. Working with a small team to develop and assess options to resolve technical challenges and identifying impacts, risks, and benefits for each solution across the design. 6. Documenting and communicating technical determinations.Requirements:
Requirements A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture from an ABET-accredited school 0-3 years of relevant experience, including experience on multiple types of vessels. Experience using 3D design and analysis tools such as GHS, SurfaceWorks, Rhino, and/or SolidWorks Good written and verbal communication skills The ability to board and traverse boats and ships An understanding of the following components ofNaval Architecture:
Hydrostatics and Hydrodynamics Arrangements, from the location of watertight bulkheads to the arrangement of equipment and components within spaces Intact and damaged stability Resistance and Powering Seakeeping Structural Design Applications of customer or IACS rules and requirements such as ABS, DNV, USN, and USCG Desired Skills Significant hands-on time on a variety of vessels An existing security clearance Experience with relevant commercial and Naval standards Experience using the following software packages: o Microsoft Office o Cadence FINE/Marine CFD o Other commercial or Naval resistance / maneuvering / seakeeping softwareSimilar remote jobs
