Job Description

June 29, 2026 This is a Relief position providing professional services work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gas engines and auxiliary equipment on marine vessels. Work involves monitoring all operating propulsion machinery and electrical generating facilities on-board vessels; and inspecting, adjusting, and maintaining machinery in accordance with established operational and safety standards. Performing security functions per the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 as well as provides information and direction to the public as necessary. Must be familiar with Ferry Service Vessel's and engine room operations. Must be licensed with the USCG as a third assistant engineer or greater or possess a
DDE4,000 HP
endorsement. Clean and maintain the engine room, auxiliary spaces and various other systems on the vessel. Performs other duties as required by immediate supervisor. Must be in possession of a valid TWIC or be able to get one within 30 days. Candidates may be scheduled to work aboard any of the MSFS vessels stationed in Swan's Island, Islesboro, Vinalhaven, North Haven, or Rockland.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

the following coursework/training and/or experience). Experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine engines and auxiliary equipment. Required to have a current TWIC Card
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential Card. Card is provided by TSA
  • Transportation Security Administration.
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class). U.S. Coast Guard license as a Marine Engineer for the H.P. of largest vessel owned by the State.
