Located at MiraCosta's Technology Career Institute (TCI) in Carlsbad, our programs serve the advanced manufacturing, engineering, and healthcare sectors through hands-on, skills-based instruction aligned with employer needs. We are seeking an experienced Welding Instructor who is passionate about sharing real-world expertise and helping students build the skills needed to earn American Welding Society (AWS) certification and enter the workforce. This role blends technical instruction, mentorship, and shop leadership in a fast-paced, high-impact training environment. The instructor will provide both classroom and hands-on training in safety, welding theory, blueprint reading, metallurgy, fabrication tools, and welding qualification procedures. Instruction includes Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), and TIG welding processes. The ideal candidate brings strong industry experience, a commitment to safety and quality, and a passion for developing the next generation of welders. This position is supervised by the Program Supervisor and plays a key role in maintaining program excellence and student success.
Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with AWS certification standards and industry expectations Train students in welding theory, safety protocols, blueprint reading, and fabrication practices Provide instruction in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and TIG welding processes Monitor student progress and provide consistent feedback and skill development support Maintain a safe, organized, and industry-standard welding lab environment Collaborate with the Program Supervisor on equipment, supplies, and instructional needs Recommend curriculum updates based on current industry trends and workforce demands Maintain accurate student records, evaluations, and attendance documentation Work collaboratively with other instructors to ensure consistent training standards across programs Foster professionalism, strong work habits, and job readiness skills in students Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and employers Participate in meetings, trainings, and departmental initiatives as needed Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of professional welding industry experience required Experience in teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development preferred Strong knowledge of AWS welding standards and industry best practices Excellent communication, leadership, and hands-on instructional skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, student-centered training environment
Education & Certifications:
High school diploma or GED required AWS certification required Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Pay:
$35.00 - $50.00 per hour
