President Summary of Functions:
This senior engineering position collaborates, scopes, directs, and grows the Toray Advanced Composites (TAC) high temperature thermoset (HT-TS) resin portfolio, applications, testing capability, and customer support. This engineer in conjunction with the HTPEM will have global interaction and require close coordination with TAC-Europe, Toray CMA division and Toray Japan technical sites for meeting HT-TS objectives. The role requires a proven track record of subject matter expertise, technical know-how, and a strong ability for cross-functional problem solving to lead and guide HT-TS material products to production sales market. The individual in this role must pull from hands on knowledge, an extensive background in materials, materials testing, cost accounting, part fabrication technology, industry adoption experience and project management methods. This engineer and TAC team have a broad range of duties, across the many HT-TS Markets and Product Technologies covered by TAC, and must be very reactive to customer inquiries, opportunities and troubleshooting efforts within projects at customer sites or supported within TAC facilities. Additionally, this role will mentor, train and develop junior members of the team which may or may not have direct reports. Note roles and responsibilities are subject to change with or without advanced notice. Job Requirements and Responsibilities Collaborate with HTPEM and lead HT-TS projects to support product development, sales opportunities, budgeting, scheduling and realize economic benefits for new materials, new markets, and new applications Work collaboratively with all related functions including Customers, Sales, Manufacturing, Maintenance/Facilities, Process Engineering, Process Technology, Quality Assurance, R&D and Shipping to achieve the company s objectives Application Development (AD): test panel consolidation and testing infrastructure at TAC sites to support the HT-TS materials testing, production, troubleshooting, and trial parts fabrication Promote cross functional teamwork and act as a role model for productive, responsible behavior from all employees Record, analyze and report composite material results and project metrics in compliance with testing standards with truth and accuracy Work with cross functional team to understand clear objectives and expectations for development projects Functions Provide customers and potential customers with HT-TS material selection advice for composite parts based on design objectives, material properties, part applications, design for manufacturability, build rates and cost targets Provide guidance for projects and materials compliance to regulatory requirements such as FAA, CMH-17, DoD, and other stakeholders Project management and reporting of results of material characterization and application development (AD) - may include industry journal and conference publication/presentations. Contribute to IP, SOPs, JSAs and Management of Change (MOC). Assessments of part manufacturing technologies, equipment, and contractors for TAC material suitability as part of material product development projects (i.e., part producibility) Evaluate methods and materials that will allow customers to maximize their performance when using Toray materials Support investigations, resolve material non-conformances and customer issues related to new product introductions as output of projects Participating in customer site projects, technical service/sales calls, industry trade shows, and visits by customers at Toray Use DOE methodology, data and statistical methods to prove equivalency and substantiate change/improvements. Lean & Six Sigma certification is a plus. Support targeted projects at Toray or customer which may include defining and documenting product and processing parameters, capability, and applications Travel as required to support customer needs and representation of Toray at industry related conferences with up to 25% travel potentially Safety & Environment Ensure that HT-TS products are safe and have environmentally sound processes Responsibility to confirm that corporate and regulatory requirements are met or exceeded Work closely with EHS team to generate & manage SDSs in compliance with regulatory needs. Ensure processes are properly documented and the documents are being followed in adherence with AS9100 registration and industry testing standards Financial Responsibility Manage HT-TS application development and qualification program budgets while advancing the maturity of materials, processes, and applications thereof Working with TAC team, implement actions that contribute to the goal of achieving financial targets, such as, sales growth, productivity, test cost management, and reduction of scrap/waste levels
EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
7+ years HT-TS engineering experience - Advanced degree preferred (MS, or PhD) Academic or industry expertise in cyanate ester, bismaleimide, polyimide, polysiloxane, and other high temperature-high performance composite matrix resins Past proven material development/test, project management and leadership experience a must Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations and decision making. Salary Range :
