Job Description

Position Summary The Assistant Engineering Manager supports the Engineering Manager in overseeing engineering operations within a wind tower manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering activities to ensure efficient production, product quality, and continuous improvement. The position bridges design, manufacturing, and maintenance teams to optimize processes, resolve technical issues, and support organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Assist in managing daily engineering operations, including fabrication, welding, machining, coatings and assembly processes for wind tower components Management of capex systems and purchasing for all factory needs Support the development and implementation of engineering standards, procedures, and best practices Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on the shop floor Review engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to ensure accuracy and manufacturability Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, cost reduction, and productivity (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) Assist in project management activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and tracking progress against milestones Ensure compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and safety regulations Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for non-conformances Help mentor and develop engineering staff, including junior engineers and technicians Assist in evaluating and implementing new equipment, tooling, and technologies Coordinate with supply chain and vendors on technical requirements and material specifications Generate and analyze performance metrics to drive decision-making
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field required
Experience:
5-10 years of experience in heavy manufacturing, preferably in wind tower, structural steel, or similar industries Experience with welding processes, coating processes, large-scale fabrication, and industrial equipment Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, welding codes (AWS, ISO), and structural steel manufacturing Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation Experience with ERP/MRP systems and engineering software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment Strong organizational and leadership skills Work Environment Combination of office and manufacturing floor environment Regular exposure to heavy equipment, welding operations, and industrial conditions Must adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements Physical Requirements Ability to walk production floors and stand for extended periods Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs Ability to work in varying industrial conditions (noise, heat, etc.) Additional Notes (Optional) Experience in renewable energy manufacturing is a plus Familiarity with large-diameter rolled steel sections and tower flange assembly preferred •
