Job Description
Subsidiary Steel Dynamics Overview As a process metallurgist at the SDI Butler location, you will be a key member of our high performing production team, which includes engineers, supervisors, and operators that thrive on solving complex challenges, pushing process innovations, and shaping the future of steelmaking. Every day will bring variety and challenge - you won't just be supporting production, you'll be driving it forward with the chance to directly impact quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Your work comes to life in our world-class steel, which is used to make products in nearly every industry, including infrastructure, automotive, and appliances. Responsibilities Partner with operations to analyze, troubleshoot, and improve the steel production processes, ensuring consistent product quality Lead and support projects focused on safety, quality, yield, and cost improvements Use data driven problem solving to optimize operations and decision making Collaborate with engineers, operators, and leadership to identify opportunities for innovation and process control improvements Support continuous product development/improvement projects witht the Product Metallurgist Provide technical support, including product and operational information for SDI Sales and SDI Customers Review and investigate claims with the production team and the Metallurgical Service Engineers and customers Contribute to long term vision of the Butler plant by driving continuous improvement and best practices and helping with
ISO/IATF
certification activities Qualifications Required BS degree or equivalent in metallurgy, materials science, or related engineering field Highly effective communication and collaboration skills for a team-based environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply metallurgical principles to real-world production Passion for innovation, continuous improvement and hands-on problem solving Travel - some travel is necessary to visit customers, attend conferences, attend meetings at other SDI locations, etc. This role is full time, onsite in Butler, IN, other than travel opportunities.
