Metallurgical Engineering Lead American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. - 3.4 Fort Wayne, IN Job Details Full-time 4 hours ago Qualifications Heat treating Bachelor's degree Manufacturing company experience Full Job Description Job Posting Title Metallurgical Engineering Lead Job Description Summary Dauch is hiring a Metallurgical Engineering Lead to support technical metallurgical and heat treat leadership teams, leading complex investigations and audits, and driving standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives at our Fort Wayne facility. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert, mentoring metallurgists and engineers while partnering with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, suppliers, and customers to ensure robust, capable, and compliant material processes. These processes include carburizing gas heat treatment, surface enhancement (ie. shot peening), chemical processes (washers, coatings, paint), and non-destructive testing. The Metallurgical Engineering Lead is also responsible for developing process parameters and overseeing the operation of all processes that effect the metallurgical properties and metallurgical inspection of components and assemblies.
Job Description:
Oversee metallurgy, heat treatment, and material processing across assigned plants, programs, or supplier base to ensure quality and integrity of components. Direct safe/proper set up, validation, operation and maintenance for metallurgical and heat treat processes and equipment and develop/document process parameters. Write Materials Specifications, plant metallurgy procedures, metallurgy process documentation. Manage all activities in the metallurgy laboratory supporting manufacturing plant materials items. Perform analysis on components and materials and write concise engineering reports documenting findings/conclusions. Metallurgical process development for new products and materials Provide technical direction within metallurgy, quality, procurement, manufacturing and product engineering for all materials related items. Oversee complex metallurgical investigations, including failure analysis, heat treat nonconformances, and customer issues Act as a mentor, coaching metallurgists, quality engineers, and manufacturing teams Establish, standardize, and maintain metallurgical and heat treatment best practices, specifications, and technical guidelines Required Skills and Education Bachelors Degree in Materials Science/Metallurgy or Chemistry 5 years of experience in Materials design, analysis / Fracture analysis, processing and testing. 4 years manufacturing experience involving heat treatment of materials including Gas Carburizing heat treatment. Thorough understanding of Quality Systems (ISO/TS 16949), FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA and SPC preferred. About AAM:
