Greenfield, IN About Civan Lasers Civan Lasers is developing advanced industrial laser solutions based on its Dynamic Beam Laser (DBL) technology. Our systems enable new capabilities in welding and additive manufacturing through dynamic beam shaping and high-brightness fiber laser technology. We are looking for an experienced Senior Welding / Manufacturing Engineer to lead process development activities at our Greenfield application lab. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on developing advanced laser welding and manufacturing processes, supporting customer demonstrations, and helping transition laser technology into real production environments. The position combines laboratory process development with customer-facing technical support. The engineer will work closely with a welding technician, internal R&D teams, integrators, and customers across industries such as heavy manufacturing, shipbuilding, structural steel, automotive, and defense. The role includes approximately 30% travel, primarily short weekly trips to customer sites across the United States for process development, troubleshooting, and production support. Position Overview The Senior Welding / Manufacturing Engineer will lead welding and manufacturing process development activities at Civan's Greenfield application lab. This includes developing laser welding procedures, optimizing robotic welding processes, supporting live customer trials, and assisting with field implementation of Civan's DBL technology. The engineer will be responsible for planning and executing welding trials, analyzing results, documenting process parameters, and supporting customer adoption of laser manufacturing solutions. The role also includes troubleshooting laser process issues and supporting field service activities when needed. The Greenfield lab includes a FANUC robotic welding cell, making robotic programming and automation experience highly valuable Responsibilities
  • Lead development and optimization of laser welding and manufacturing processes
  • Execute customer demonstrations, weld trials, and proof-of-concept activities
  • Support implementation of welding processes at customer production sites
  • Work closely with a welding technician to execute daily lab activities and testing
  • Develop welding procedures, process documentation, and technical reports
  • Analyze weld quality using visual inspection, destructive testing, and metallurgical evaluation
  • Support troubleshooting of laser systems, optics, process parameters, and manufacturing integration challenges
  • Coordinate and support robotic welding activities using FANUC robotic systems
  • Assist customers with process qualification and manufacturing readiness
  • Work with internal R&D and applications teams to transfer new developments into customer-facing processes
  • Maintain organized documentation of welding parameters, results, and lessons learned
  • Support integration activities with fixtures, wire feeders, scanners, fume extraction systems, and automation equipment
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, conferences, and trade shows as needed
  • Travel to customer sites for process development and technical support activities Requirements
  • related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on welding or manufacturing process development experience
  • Experience with industrial welding processes such as laser welding, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, or hybrid welding
  • Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, weld defects, distortion, and process optimization
  • Experience working in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments
  • Experience with robotic welding systems preferred, especially FANUC robots
  • Experience with automation systems, fixtures, or industrial integration is an advantage
  • Ability to independently plan and execute technical development work
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working directly with customers in production environments
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30%
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • General knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint
  • Physical requirements:
  • Willing and able to sit or stand for prolonged periods
  • Willing and able to lift up to 35 lbs. Top Candidates May Also Have
  • Familiarity with AWS welding standards and qualification procedures
  • Experience with metallography, destructive testing, or NDT methods
  • Experience supporting production ramp-up or manufacturing implementation
  • Experience in shipbuilding, structural steel, energy, or defense manufacturing
Pay:
$110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
