Heat Treat Specialist Engine Power Components, Inc. Opportunity at Grand Haven, Michigan facility Why you should join our team: The Heat Treat Specialist is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of induction heat treating processes for new and existing products. Induction heat treating is the core capability of our operation, and this role plays a critical part in maintaining and improving those processes. This is a highly hands-on position, requiring active involvement on the production floor as well as in the metallurgical lab. The position ensures product quality, process consistency, and supports troubleshooting and process optimization efforts. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency while driving continuous improvement.

If it has an engine, we probably supply a camshaft for that application. We support heavy-duty on and off-road markets, marine and recreational vehicles, light-duty trucks, passenger cars, motorcycles, auxiliary power units, racing and high-performance vehicles, and large horsepower applications for ships, locomotives, mining equipment, and power generation. Strong customer relationships with globally recognized engine manufacturers, along with a talented and dedicated team, have allowed Engine Power Components to grow from a small operation founded in 1979 into one of the world's leading camshaft suppliers. As Heat Treat Specialist, you will: Support and troubleshoot induction heat treating processes on the production floor Ensure all products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards Support process development and continuous improvement of induction heat treat operations Perform metallurgical lab inspections including microscopic and macroscopic examination, hardness testing, magnetic particle inspection, and etch conformance Prepare samples including sectioning, mounting, polishing, etching, and cross-sectioning for analysis Perform measurement tasks associated with APQP and PPAP processes, including capability studies and ISIR layouts Ensure incoming material meets certification and quality requirements Train process stakeholders on new or updated requirements, including induction process parameters , and verify effectiveness through audits across all shifts Participate in internal audits and calibration system processes to ensure integrity of standards Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to heat treat and metallurgical performance Communicate with suppliers regarding material quality and assist with non-conformance resolution (including scrap and returns) Order and maintain lab and testing supplies Perform chemical mixing and support maintenance of lab equipment (including magnetic particle systems) Ensure certification and proper functioning of testing equipment (gages, hardness testers, black lights, ovens) Conduct daily process verification activities, including operator compliance reviews and Millipore checks Comply with company policies, procedures, and safety standards while actively supporting safety improvements Perform other duties as assigned As an ideal candidate for Metallurgical Lab Technician, you would: High School Diploma required; Associate's degree or technical training in metallurgy or materials science preferred 1-3 years of experience in heat treating, metallurgical lab work, or related manufacturing environment Working knowledge of measurement systems, mechanical and programmable measuring tools, and quality/continuous improvement practices Familiarity with statistical techniques and inspection methods; experience with hardness, magnetic particle, and etch equipment preferred Blueprint reading skills and understanding of metrology standards Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and related software Valid driver's license If you are passionate about metallurgy and want to build expertise in induction heat treating , we would love to speak with you.
