Job Description

Job Title:
Senior Polymer Science Consultant (Part-Time / Contract) Seeking Experienced Polymer Expert Looking to Continue Innovating If you've spent a career solving complex polymer challenges and are now consulting independently—or you've stepped away from full-time work but still enjoy tackling meaningful technical problems—this opportunity is designed for you. We are seeking a tenured Polymer Science Expert to act as a trusted advisor to our internal engineering team. This is a flexible, part-time consulting role, ideal for someone who values autonomy, impact, and the ability to contribute without the demands of a full-time position. Position Overview Our company develops and manufactures extruded polymer products using advanced thermoplastic and elastomeric materials. We are looking for an expert who can augment our internal capabilities, helping interpret test results, guide material decisions, advise on process development and troubleshooting and provide strategic insight as we evaluate bringing aspects of polymer compounding and manufacturing in-house. This role is advisory in nature—you will not be executing day-to-day engineering tasks but instead partnering closely with our existing engineers to elevate decision-making and accelerate problem-solving.
Engagement Type:
Contract / Hourly /
Part-Time Location:
Remote, with occasional site visits for trials as needed Key Responsibilities Serve as a technical advisor and sounding board to internal engineering staff Provide expert interpretation of material behavior, test data, and observed performance Guide engineers in troubleshooting processing challenges related to extrusion and compounding Leverage expertise to correlate material properties to product performance Advise on formulation strategies and material selection to meet performance and cost targets Offer insight into polymer processing best practices, including extrusion and downstream handling Support strategic planning for potential in-house polymer compounding and manufacturing, including high-level input on equipment, processes, and feasibility Help bridge gaps between lab-scale findings and real-world manufacturing outcomes Required Expertise Extensive hands-on experience in polymer science, material development, synthesis and processing Deep knowledge of: Polyethylene (PE) Thermoplastic Polyolefins (TPO) Thermoplastic Copolyesters (TPEE / TPC) Elastomers and Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPEs) Strong background in polymer compounding, extrusion, and manufacturing processes Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex material and processing issues Ideal Candidate Profile 15+ years of industry experience in polymer science or materials engineering Currently operating as an independent consultant or recently retired/semi-retired from a relevant technical leadership role Interested in flexible, part-time engagement with meaningful technical challenges Comfortable working in a collaborative, advisory capacity rather than a direct execution role Ability to communicate clearly and translate deep technical knowledge into practical guidance
