Job Description

The Materials Science - GEM Post Undergraduate Intern (Summer 2026) will contribute to environmental protection mission by applying engineering and science to accelerate closure and reduce risk at active environmental cleanup sites for the Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM). Interns are provided an exciting learning environment to develop into the next generation of professional scientists and engineers, explore the unknown, and make impactful discoveries. GEM Summer Internships typically run for a 10-12 week period. Minimum Qualifications Must be a U.S. Citizen Bachelor's degree (enrolled or recently earned within a year) in electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, chemistry, physics, or a closely related discipline Preferred Qualifications GPA of 3.65 or higher Experienced working in a laboratory environment Conduct original research in materials science Think critically, analyze data, and integrate these skills into effective experimental design, execution, and reporting Effectively communicate (verbal and written) technical results, including peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations Work safely with particular attention to quality. Comply with all SRNL and DOE policies and standards
