Welding Lead -
Automotive Shipping Rack Manufacturing Position Summary:
The Welding Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating welding operations involved in the fabrication, repair, and modification of automotive shipping racks and material handling equipment. This role ensures production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are met while providing leadership and technical support to welders and fabrication personnel. •Hiring for steady 1st or 2nd shift•Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise a team of welders and fabricators during daily production activities. Assign work based on production schedules and employee skill levels. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding specifications. Ensure all welding and fabrication work meets customer, company, and quality standards. Inspect completed welds for accuracy, strength, and compliance with specifications. Train, mentor, and evaluate welding personnel. Troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues and implement corrective actions. Coordinate with production, engineering, maintenance, and quality departments to resolve manufacturing concerns. Monitor material usage and report inventory requirements. Ensure proper maintenance and operation of welding equipment, fixtures, and tools. Enforce workplace safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA/company safety policies. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce waste. Assist with fabrication, welding, and repair work as required. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 5+ years of welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment. 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Proficiency in MIG welding considered an asset. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols. Strong knowledge of steel fabrication and assembly processes. Experience using measuring instruments and quality inspection tools. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience manufacturing automotive shipping racks, dunnage systems, or material handling equipment. Welding certifications (e.g., CWB, AWS, or equivalent). Forklift and overhead crane experience. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, and varying temperatures. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Performance Expectations Meet daily production and delivery schedules. Maintain high weld quality and low rework rates. Promote a safe, organized, and productive work environment. $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
