Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits Overview The School of Professional and Technical Education (SPTE) at Utah State University (USU) seeks candidates for a full-time, academic-year (9-month), non-tenure track term lecturer position in the Welding Technology program. The Welding Technology program offers both a Technical Certificate (TC) and an Associate of Applied Science (AAS). The appointment is 95% teaching and 5% service. It is anticipated that the individual selected for this faculty position will start in August 1, 2026. In an effort to expand the availability of program course offerings, the successful candidate for this position will teach a variety of welding courses. As part of USU's land grant mission to make academic programs accessible throughout the state, this position will be physically located at the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah. Responsibilities The successful applicant for this position will teach, improve, and develop courses in the esteemed USU Eastern welding program with an emphasis on students enrolled in the Welding degree programs. Instructional emphasis will be placed on providing excellent instruction in the common arc welding processes - specifically GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW. Specific courses within the work assignment may also include, but are not limited to, thermal cutting, print reading, fabrication, welding procedure conformance, weld inspection, AWS welding symbols and definitions, and metallurgy. The successful candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively with other program faculty members to enhance the success of the welding program and students. Additionally, the importance of providing welding training to non-degree-seeking students will be recognized; instruction to concurrent students, non-traditional students, and the local workforce, as applicable, will be expected. Examples may include teaching evening courses and non-credit instruction for local workforce development. Participation in university, college, and/or school/departmental activities is required as part of each USU faculty member's service contribution requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to: Designing and delivering classroom and hands-on instruction focused on intentionally maximizing student potential in the welding industry Teaching courses in common and advanced arc welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SMAW), followingAWS/ASME
standards, for certificates and AAS welding degree Teaching print reading, weld inspection, and metallurgy courses when needed Teaching afternoon and evening courses, concurrent enrollment courses, and community/workforce training courses as needed Teaching courses that provide workforce training and industry-validated qualifications Sharing in the management, maintenance, procurement, and improvement of welding equipment and welding facilities Share in the coordination of biannual program advisory committee (PAC) meetings with industry partners Serve on departmental, division, and university committees Advise and recruit students Participate in, advise, and promote SkillsUSA Actively participate in personal professional development to enhance both industry knowledge and teaching ability Collaborating as a contributing member of a faculty team Fulfilling other duties as assigned QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
S. or A.A.S. degree in welding, welding technology, or a very closely related field from an accredited school. At least two years of industry or related experience where work is performed to recognized industry codes and is primarily focused on welding. CWI certification or the ability to obtain the certification within one year of hire. Journeyman level welding skills in one or more arc welding processes. Teaching-focused candidate who understands, and is committed to, the mission of USU Eastern. A commitment to student success. Willingness to work to improve instructional effectiveness and personal technical skills.Preferred Qualifications:
BS degree in welding, welding engineering, or a very closely related field Experience teaching welding at a post-secondary level Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Experience with welding competitions as a contestant, advisor, organizer, and/or judge Experience with code-compliant welding procedure development and conformance Experience in one or more of the following: pipe welding, pipe fitting, structural fabrication, LBW, welding robotics, SAW, brazing, additive manufacturing,AutoCAD, SolidWorks Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work as a member of an instructional team; individual needs are subordinate to team goals. Demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communication, interpersonal, organizational, and team-building skills. Cultural sensitivity and an ability to build rapport with a culturally diverse workforce in a multicultural setting.
