POSITION SUMMARY
Interfacial Consultants, LLC, a Nagase Company, is an innovative company that specializes in the development and commercialization of plastics, materials, and processes. You will work closely with other engineers, scientists, sales team members and external customers to accelerate material science based projects and products forward. You will support the creation of novel solutions for customer and market needs by rapidly iterating through material formulation, prototype production, post processing, and characterization. You will work in a global organization, frequently interfacing with colleagues and customers from around the globe. As part of this energetic team, your insights will help guide the direction of Interfacial's products. The Staff Scientist is responsible for developing materials, formulations, and processes to support and solve industrially relevant problems by performing lab experimentation using methods for production of plastics compounds, testing the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of formulated composite materials.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Development of new formulations and processes for production of plastic compounds and polymer composite materials Developing customized solutions to industrially relevant needs Direct experimental work of junior level research scientists, technicians and interns Able to perform exploratory experiments to quickly test ideas and scope the future path of experiments Develop or modify methods and techniques to produce and characterize novel materials Develop intellectual property through patents and trade secrets Creating technical proposals for internal and external research projects Generate experimental workflow, collect data, and report results Evaluate instruments and process equipment for R&D use Manage tasks effectively for rapid completion of projects Collaborate with other scientists, and leaders, in the organization. Share ideas on projects, think and plan as a team, but be able to act independently. Maintain a clean and safe work environment Comply with all safety and housekeeping policies Conduct safety reviews of new processes and materialsKNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or Chemical Engineering with background in polymers and/or polymer processing Advanced polymer and materials knowledge Advanced math, science, and computer skills; including strong interest and experience with using leveraging AI tools and multivariate design experiments software and methodology Commitment to safety Commitment to quality Ability to train, direct and supervise others Ability to work independently with flexibility, multi-task, and prioritize 0-10 years in industrial experience Proven track record of publications (journal articles/patents) Willing to relocate to the Minneapolis/St. Paul areaWHY JOIN INTERFACIAL?
