Position Description The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring welding operations and fabricated products comply with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and customer requirements. This role performs weld inspections, reviews welding documentation, supports production and quality teams, and helps maintain compliance with AWS, ASME, ISO, and customer quality requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Welding Inspection Quality Control Perform visual inspection of welds in accordance with AWS D1.1 and D1.2, ASME, or other applicable standards Verify weld size, profile, alignment, fit-up, and overall workmanship Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and applicable codes Identify nonconforming welds and support corrective and preventive actions Welding Process Oversight Compliance Monitor welding processes, consumables, joint preparation, and pre/post-weld requirements Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) Support internal and external audits related to welding and quality systems Promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement within welding operations Documentation, Training Cross-Functional Support Document inspection results and maintain accurate inspection and quality records Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve welding-related issues Assist in welder training, qualification, and requalification activities Performs additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills Abilities Required Strong knowledge of welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW) and applicable codes/standards (AWS, ASME) Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols Proficiency with inspection tools, gauges, and quality documentation practices Strong attention to detail with a quality-driven mindset Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy Professional judgment, integrity, and ability to collaborate effectively across teams Ability to train and mentor welders Strong proficiency in engineering datasets and models (eDrawings, EPDM) Preferred Experience in structural steel, pressure vessels, piping, or fabricated assemblies Knowledge of NDE methods (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) - certification a plus Experience working in

quality systems Ability to perform root cause analysis and support continuous improvement initiatives Qualifications Experience High school graduate or GED and at least 5 years of welding inspection work experience in a production or manufacturing environment is required. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (current and in good standing) is required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Welding Technology, Engineering, or related field is preferred. The employee regularly is required to walk and reach with hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee occasionally uses computer keyboards. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor occasionally.
