Sensors Python Full Job Description Summary:
This is a full-time engineering position at Alcor Life Extension Foundation. Engineers build, operate, maintain, and document systems used by the Foundation. They are responsible for assembly and installation of medical hardware and perfusion systems, collection and analysis of process data, cryogenic patient transfers, maintenance of existing procedures and systems, and development of new procedures, hardware, software, tools, and documentation according to the needs of the Alcor research, medical, and field response teams. After extensive training, engineers will be expected to share on-call duty with other coworkers for patient cryopreservation cases. This involves understanding, setting up, and operating the computer perfusion system while communicating with the surgeon, scribe, and other medical staff during active cases. Alcor has an emphasis on personal project ownership and creative solutions in a small-scale development space on the front edge of cryogenic research.
Relevant Experience:
Computer Aided Design
  • Model systems based on physical measurements and requirements using CAD software, e.g. Solidworks, OnShape, Fusion. Be able to generate and specify requirements for collaboration with third party fabricators. Finite Element Analysis / Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Model, mesh, and constrain computer models to simulate real-world systems. Thermodynamics
  • Understand the mechanics of heat flow, phase change, and conservation laws. Material and hardware selection
  • Choose appropriate materials and components according to properties, cost, or other requirements and limitations. Fabrication
  • Understand and accommodate the capabilities and limitations of accessible fabrication techniques. Employ appropriate fabrication techniques for the situation, including 3D printing (FDM/SLS), 2D CAM (Laser/waterjet), sheet metal bending and spot welding, TIG, MIG, brazing, soldering, lathe milling, hand shaping, breadboard prototyping, and more. Communication and technical writing competence
  • Maintain a coherent and consistent writing style, excel at synthesizing and communicating information to non-laymen. Comfortable in proximity to medical environments, surgical procedures, human bodily functions; willing and able to observe universal biohazard precautions. System integration skills
  • Write software, build hardware, integrate functional systems, and process collected data Perform in a physically demanding and fast-moving environment when necessary (No excessive manual labor involved) Key words & Bonus Experience

Duties:
Develop new technology, equipment and processes to further the Foundation's goals. Produce and update documentation and standard operating procedures to accommodate technology, equipment and processes. Cooperate with Alcor's research, medical, and field team members to shape project requirements, gather feedback, and meet situational needs. Integrate hardware, software, physical and digital interfaces. Employ process control, data collection and management, signal processing techniques, et al. to meet project requirements. Work in a collaborative multi-media workspace with personal ownership of projects and hands-on involvement in all processes. Maintain workplace cleanliness and practice proper safety. Where applicable, generate invention disclosure forms and communicate details with patent attorneys to perform patent searches and submit patent applications for novel inventions and processes. Original inventorship is respected; patent ownership is assigned to Alcor. Share on-call duty with other coworkers for patient cryopreservation cases after extensive training and familiarization with the perfusion procedures and control systems. This involves setting up, operating, and breaking down the computer perfusion system and communicating with the surgeon, scribe, and other medical staff during active cases. Process experimental data. Develop tools to improve and expedite data processing. Fabricate medical equipment, such as medical tubing circuits, according to assembly diagrams. Update assembly diagrams to accommodate component changes and system requirements. Compound and process research chemicals. Operate sterilization equipment, measure powder and liquid components, balance pH, filter and process liquid components, employ proper PPE practices and chemical handling practices. Maintain existing systems and documentation. Additional duties as assigned.
