Job Description:
Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and complete machinery for nut, fruit, and food processing applications. Create detailed SolidWorks 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings in accordance with
ANSI/ISO
standards, including GD&T, BOMs, and weldment documentation. Collaborate on projects from initial concept and prototyping through Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), installation, and ongoing customer support. Perform engineering calculations involving structural analysis, drive sizing, bearing and shaft selection, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and material flow. Select and specify components such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, vibratory systems, pneumatic actuators, and sensors. Work closely with electrical, controls, fabrication, and assembly teams to integrate mechanical systems with PLC-based automation. Ensure all designs comply with food safety standards including
FDA, USDA, 3-A
Sanitary, and EHEDG requirements, as well as machinery safety standards such as OSHA and
CE/ANSI B11.
Troubleshoot equipment issues both in-house and at customer sites while supporting continuous improvement and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) initiatives. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, revision tracking, and change management processes. Support sales and project management teams by providing technical proposals, equipment layouts, and cost estimates. All other duties assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years of experience designing equipment for the food, nut, or fruit processing industries. Strong SolidWorks experience with large assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, and machinery design. Knowledge of food-grade materials, sanitary design, and manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly. Skilled in engineering calculations, GD&T, and interpreting mechanical drawings. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and hands-on problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with food processing equipment such as sorting, grading, drying, roasting, shelling, washing, or packaging systems. Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM, FEA, motion simulation, and PLC/HMI/SCADA-integrated equipment. Knowledge of CE compliance and project management experience. Willingness to travel up to 2% for customer sites and trade shows. Apply Here #chicoca
