An Autonomous Mobility Company Mechanical Design Engineer - Sustaining Infotainment An Autonomous Mobility Company Full time Location Foster City, CA, United States Work environment In-person Expected pay amount 76.54 USD Per Hour Schedule 40 hours per week Assignment length Contract Job description HireArt is helping our client find a Mechanical Design Engineer - Sustaining Infotainment, to support the continued development and production scaling of electromechanical systems used in an autonomous vehicle platform. In this role, you'll focus on sustaining engineering and continuous improvement of deployed infotainment and sensing hardware, including the Door Interface Module (external rider interaction system) and the Interior Camera System used for cabin sensing and rider safety. As the fleet scales from hundreds to thousands of vehicles, you will help improve manufacturability, coordinate with suppliers, and implement design updates that support reliable, high-volume production. The ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with experience designing complex electromechanical products that combine mechanical structure with embedded electronics. You are comfortable working in structured engineering environments, collaborating with suppliers, and supporting products through production scaling and lifecycle updates. As a Mechanical Design Engineer (Sustaining Infotainment), you'll: Support sustaining engineering and continuous improvement of deployed infotainment and sensing hardware systems. Design and update electromechanical assemblies used in external vehicle interfaces and cabin sensing systems. Integrate electronics within mechanical assemblies while addressing packaging, structural, thermal, and reliability requirements. Work closely with Tier 1 suppliers to support design updates, manufacturing improvements, and production scaling. Troubleshoot design issues, identify opportunities for simplification, and minimize change risk during production ramp. Manage product lifecycle updates, including requirements validation, controlled design changes, and engineering documentation. Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, supplier quality, and production teams to ensure successful hardware deployment. Support scaling production as vehicle builds increase and hardware systems transition to larger fleet deployments. Requirements A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering 5+ years of industry experience (automotive experience is preferred) Strong experience with 3D CAD design (CATIA is preferred) Experience designing mechanical assemblies that integrate electronic components Knowledge of injection molded plastic and die-cast component design Experience working in structured engineering environments with controlled design processes Ability to collaborate across cross-functional engineering and supplier teams
Bonus Qualifications:
Automotive hardware development experience Experience working directly with Tier 1 suppliers or ODM manufacturing partners Familiarity with application lifecycle management (ALM) or requirements management systems Experience supporting sustaining engineering or production ramp activities Exposure to infotainment systems, camera systems, or user interface hardware
