Job Description

What to Expect The Equipment Engineer is responsible for designing, delivering, and managing equipment to support production of all Tesla products. We are looking for a talented and highly motivated individual to join the Production Control Equipment Engineering Team. This team is responsible for supporting all physical engineering needs of the Production Control Team, including designing equipment for part transport and staging, providing solutions to safety and ergonomic issue, as well as leading warehouse and process improvement and new product launch projects. The scope of equipment includes, but is not limited to conveyors, lifts, ASRSs, robots, and mobile equipment including AGVs and AMRs. Successful members of the team will be highly proactive and self-sufficient in pursuing improvement projects, will be able to multitask and refocus efforts immediately to meet constantly shifting demands in a fast-paced environment, and have exceptional leadership ability to drive cross functional collaboration projects to completion on or ahead of schedule. What You'll Do Design and own equipment to meet operation requirements and specifications for new launches and sustaining projects Create equipment drawings, specs, quotes, and purchase requisitions ensuring designs are compatible with packaging, material-handling, production processes, and are appropriately serviceable Utilize Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles, in design of Equipment, develop FMEA for the equipment and project management tools like Gantt charts Develop business cases, RFQs, project specifications, and requirements; manage technical projects including budget, timeline, scope, identification of critical spare parts, and collaboration with internal/external teams for improvement projects and equipment acquisitions Order equipment to meet staffing, spares, and maintenance needs Interface with suppliers for manufacturing feasibility, validation, and other engineering activities, including communication on project status, critical items, and priorities Provide day-to-day support, including rapid response to breakdowns, root cause analysis, cross-functional collaboration for maintenance and reliability improvements projects and minimization of downtime through continuous projects What You'll Bring Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar field or equivalent experience Familiarity with designing any or all the following: mobile & stationary material handling equipment, towed dollies, racks, stands, lift-assists, and end-of-arm tools, Conveyors and Material handling automation equipment Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, or similar modeling software Basic understanding of GD&T as well as weld symbols Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and a variety of engineering materials, fastening methods Familiarity with industrial robots, controls systems, programming language, microcontrollers and PLCs Familiarity with 3D printing and Rapid prototyping, fabrication and machining skills Experience with rapid prototyping and small to medium volume production Communicate clearly using excellent written and verbal skills 2+ years of experience performing similar work in Automotive Manufacturing environment Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $84,000
