Job Description
Job Title:
Mechanical Engineer Job Description This Mechanical Engineer role supports a cross-functional team of mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, as well as machinists and assembly technicians, to design and develop rugged electro-mechanical systems for aerospace applications. The position focuses on creating innovative solutions for electric machines, controllers, and electro-mechanical structures while addressing thermal, structural, and packaging challenges under aerospace and MIL environmental constraints. The engineer also supports the transition of new products into production by troubleshooting build issues, collaborating with suppliers, and developing tooling and work instructions. Responsibilities Provide mechanical engineering support for company projects across the full product lifecycle. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers, machinists, and assembly technicians, to develop electro-mechanical solutions. Apply first-principles, physics-based thinking to solve mechanical and electro-mechanical problems of varied scope and complexity. Design, develop, modify, and evaluate rugged electric machines and controllers for use in aerospace applications. Determine design approaches, assumptions, and key parameters to meet performance, reliability, and environmental requirements. Create 3D CAD models of components and assemblies usingSOLIDWORKS.
Create and review detailed engineering drawing packages for manufacturing, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to standards and GD&T principles. Perform structural and thermal analysis using FEA tools such asSOLIDWORKS
Simulation and ANSYS Mechanical Workbench to validate and optimize designs. Support prototype and first article New Product Introduction (NPI) builds, including hands-on involvement with complex assemblies. Troubleshoot build and assembly issues and work with suppliers and internal teams to implement effective corrective actions. Develop production tooling and contribute to the creation of clear, accurate work instructions for manufacturing and assembly. Interface with customers to understand requirements and ensure that products and components meet customer specifications and applicable standards. Coordinate with suppliers, customers, and integrated product teams to support design, development, and production activities. Contribute to the testing of electro-mechanical systems, including electric machines, PCBAs, harnesses, flexible assemblies, and electronics enclosures. Support adherence to Quality Management System practices, including AS9100, throughout design and development activities. Perform all other engineering duties as assigned by leadership. Travel occasionally as required to support customers, suppliers, or project activities. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent degree and work experience. 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably with electro-mechanical or aerospace-related products. Advanced working knowledge ofSOLIDWORKS CAD
software for 3D modeling of components and assemblies. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Operational understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and their application to engineering drawings. Hands-on experience with mechanical finite element analysis (FEA) usingSOLIDWORKS
Simulation and/or ANSYS Mechanical Workbench. Familiarity with electric motors, generators, motion control electronics, and power electronics. Advanced knowledge of electro-mechanical system testing, including test equipment theory and operation. Experience working with complex assemblies such as electric machines, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), harnessing, flexible assemblies, and electronics enclosures. Strong technical aptitude with the ability to apply first-principles and physics-based reasoning to solve complex engineering problems. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly to team members, customers, and suppliers. Demonstrated creativity in mechanical design and engineering analysis. Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, integrated product teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience designing electro-mechanical structures for aerospace applications and MIL environmental constraints. Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), including prototype and first article builds. Experience troubleshooting manufacturing and assembly issues and implementing design or process improvements. Familiarity with AS9100 Quality Management Systems (QMS) and working within a structured quality environment. Experience interfacing directly with customers and suppliers in a technical capacity. Experience developing production tooling and detailed work instructions for manufacturing. Experience in thermal and structural analysis of ruggedized electric machines and controllers. Experience with electrical packaging and thermal management of electronics and power systems. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced project environment. Willingness and ability to travel occasionally in support of project and customer needs. Work Environment The work environment combines office-based engineering activities with regular exposure to a hands-on production and test setting. While performing the duties of this job, employees frequently work near moving mechanical parts and active electro-mechanical systems. The noise level is typically moderate and consistent with a manufacturing and test environment. Team members collaborate closely with engineers, machinists, and assembly technicians, using tools such asSOLIDWORKS, FEA
software, and standard test equipment to develop and validate aerospace-grade products.
