Merced, CA Full-Time | In Person About Milano Technical Group Milano Technical Group develops custom engineering solutions and advanced prototype-to-production systems for industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, ag-tech, factory equipment, material handling, and processing applications. Our team works across mechanical design, robotics, fabrication, controls, embedded systems, and manufacturing to rapidly develop practical hardware solutions for real-world environments. Position Summary Milano Technical Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of Industrial automation machines, robotic platforms, industrial transport systems, Mobil equipment, and prototype hardware from concept through production. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys conceptualization, CAD design, and hands-on development. The right candidate will be comfortable working directly with fabrication teams, supporting prototype builds, solving practical engineering problems, and iterating designs quickly in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Design mechanical systems, structures, mechanisms, and assemblies for industrial and autonomous equipment. Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, BOMs, and production documentation. Develop welded structures, machined parts, sheet metal assemblies, fixtures, and mobile platforms. Work closely with fabrication, machining, electrical, controls, and software teams to support system integration. Support prototype assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design refinement. Select and integrate mechanical components including motors, bearings, actuators, drivetrains, fasteners, and linear motion systems. Participate in customer-driven development projects with aggressive schedules and evolving requirements. Support field testing, deployment, and transition from prototype to low-rate production. Qualifications B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Strong CAD experience using SolidWorks, OnShape, Fusion 360, Inventor, or similar tools. Experience designing fabricated, machined, welded, or assembled mechanical systems. Understanding of mechanical design fundamentals, manufacturability, tolerancing, and structural design. Comfortable working hands-on with hardware, fabrication, and prototype systems. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Good communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Experience Industrial automation robotics and systems engineering Robotics, autonomous systems, agricultural equipment, industrial automation, or vehicle systems. Weldments, sheet metal, CNC machining, or fixture/tooling design. Electric vehicle or drivetrain integration. GD&T, DFMA, and production transition support.
