Southern California aerospace test environment Job Summary We are seeking a Senior Test Instrumentation Engineer / DAS Test Engineer to support aerospace Test & Evaluation activities for advanced flight systems. This role will support the design, build, integration, verification, and maintenance of custom and off-the-shelf test equipment and instrumentation for complex aerospace systems. This is a hands-on test instrumentation role supporting structures, materials, mechanical systems, avionics, and flight controls. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with data acquisition systems, signal conditioning, sensor instrumentation, test racks/fixtures, LabVIEW, National Instruments hardware, calibration, troubleshooting, and aerospace test documentation. Responsibilities Support ground test instrumentation and test equipment used to verify complex mechanical, electrical, structural, avionics, and flight control systems Lead and execute instrumentation projects from concept through completion Define instrumentation scope, technical requirements, and verification criteria Design, integrate, verify, and maintain data acquisition systems, DAS racks, test racks, fixtures, and instrumentation hardware Support instrumentation software development, test system troubleshooting, and hardware/software integration Work with sensors, signal conditioning, recording systems, calibration processes, and test equipment Verify that as-built instrumentation systems meet technical and performance requirements Support active test operations after instrumentation systems are deployed Participate in test engineering review, approval, release, and readiness processes Support continuous improvement of instrumentation procedures, standards, tools, and best practices Work cross-functionally with test engineering, avionics, flight controls, structures, materials, mechanical systems, manufacturing, and quality teams Support safe test operations, including test planning, documentation, reviews, and hazard/safety considerations Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience 8+ years of experience in test instrumentation, test equipment, test software, test racks, fixtures, or component acceptance/qualification testing Experience supporting one or more of the following: structural test, materials test, environmental test, avionics test, mechanical systems test, flight controls test, or aerospace system test Strong experience with instrumentation selection, signal conditioning, and data acquisition Experience with sensors such as strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers, load cells, LVDTs, pressure transducers, string potentiometers, or similar instrumentation Experience with National Instruments PXI, cRIO, cDAQ, NI-DAQmx, or similar DAQ hardware/software LabVIEW development or LabVIEW-based test system experience Hardware system build, integration, calibration, and troubleshooting experience Experience using tools such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, function generators, power supplies, loads, hand tools, crimpers, soldering tools, and other electrical/mechanical build tools Strong documentation, test planning, troubleshooting, and engineering problem-solving skills Ability to support both hands-on test equipment work and engineering-level documentation/review activity Preferred Qualifications Aerospace, flight test, avionics, military aircraft, space systems, or special mission aircraft experience Experience with airborne or ground-based telemetry, PCM, TMATS, data recording, signal conditioning, and post-test data review Experience with DO-160, SMC-S-016, or similar aerospace/environmental qualification standards Experience with vibration, acoustic, thermal, altitude, structural, materials, or environmental test environments Experience with Git or other source code control tools Experience with Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, PLM systems, Agile environments, or continuous integration tools Experience with advanced LabVIEW architectures, DQMH, JKISM, UML, or object-oriented LabVIEW is a plus Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has deep aerospace test instrumentation experience and can support the full lifecycle of a test instrumentation system: requirements definition, design, build, integration, calibration, verification, troubleshooting, documentation, and active test support. Strong candidates may come from flight test instrumentation, avionics test, aircraft systems integration, telemetry, structural test, environmental test, mechanical systems test, or aerospace qualification test backgrounds.
