MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Intake Screens Inc. designs, fabricates, and installs custom self-cleaning intake screen systems for water filtration and fish protection projects throughout North America. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of our custom screening systems. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges and wants to see their designs move from concept through fabrication, testing, and field installation. Unlike many engineering roles that focus on a single aspect of a project, this position provides direct involvement in product design, manufacturing, testing, installation, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with our engineering and fabrication teams to develop robust, innovative solutions for challenging environmental and industrial applications. Responsibilities Lead mechanical design efforts for custom screening systems and related equipment Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials using Inventor and AutoCAD Perform engineering calculations, structural evaluations, and finite element analysis (FEA) Design welded structures, mechanical assemblies, drive systems, lifting systems, and equipment components Evaluate materials, coatings, bearings, fasteners, and mechanical components for demanding operating environments Support fabrication teams through design reviews and manufacturing troubleshooting Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective design improvements Develop prototypes and testing plans for new products and design enhancements Review project specifications and ensure designs meet client requirements and applicable engineering standards Support installation, startup, and troubleshooting activities as needed Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline PE license preferred 5+ years of mechanical design experience preferred Advanced proficiency with Inventor, AutoCAD, and 3D modeling software Experience performing engineering calculations and FEA Strong understanding of structural design, mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes Experience designing fabricated steel structures, custom equipment, or industrial machinery preferred Knowledge of welding, machining, and fabrication methods Strong technical writing and communication skills Ability to manage multiple design efforts and priorities simultaneously Why Join ISI?
