Senior Engineer I, WB Mechanical (Kulicke & Soffa Industries)(Santa Ana, CA): Analyze, design, and test electro-mechanical systems for high-performance multi-axis robotic semiconductor manufacturing and process equipment. Take the lead position in systems definition and design, owning the overall responsibility of sub-assembly from inception to production support (40%); Perform analyses and calculations to ensure designs meet requirements including performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets, ensuring the overall design meets cost and manufacturability targets as well as reliability expectations (20%); Evaluate prototype designs against requirements, perform testing, document and analyze data, and write reports, performing new test fixtures and developing overall test systems (10%); Lead fabrication/build of prototype and production systems, taking on project management responsibility to organize, track, and expedite materials required in all phases of product development up to production release (10%); Work closely with Electrical Engineering and Software teams to achieve module performance, providing input and making recommendations to resolve system level issues and designs (10%); Manage overall Bill of Materials for the machine, as well as related accessories and kits, using project management skills to lay out schedules, track tasks and hold people accountable to make delivery dates (5%); and Manage and coordinate integration of multiple subsystems and modules into the overall CAD model of a large machine with >2,000 unique components, using project management skills to lay out schedules, track tasks and hold people accountable to make delivery dates (5%). The following skills and experience are required in order to complete the above-mentioned tasks: Experience using 3D CAD solid modeling tools (such as NX or ProEngineer), Finite Element Modeling (Nastran or equivalent), and MS Office tools; Experience performing analysis related to thermal, fluid, motion, vibration, and pneumatic systems, including systems level analysis; Experience performing testing, writing reports, and evaluating prototype designs against product requirements, including test development and data analysis; Experience with system design involving multiple axes, servo, pneumatic actuators, stepper motors and optical sensing devices, proximity sensors and hall effect sensors for closed loop control of mechanics in equipment, including development of new sensing techniques and/or development of completely new sub-assemblies; Experience independently interpreting requirements and design tooling according to customer's specifications and requirements; Full design cycle experience, from proof of concept through prototyping, development, and commercial realization while working independently; Experience independently performing machine troubleshooting and testing; Experience with materials and production methods, low volume manufacturing methods and mechanical engineering standards including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance); Experience taking the lead on tolerancing of all parts/completion of critical design specs for every part in sub-assembly involved; and Experience performing detailed analysis related to motion systems and mechanism designs, working independently and providing design review material to larger audiences. Requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering or a related field, and at least 6 years of experience in Precision Mechanical Engineering Design or a related occupation. Occasional international travel required to company's manufacturing facility in Singapore once per year.
