Job Description:
Mechanical Engineer III-IV - Motor Generators We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a background in high speed rotating equipment design and the desire and capability to be a lead focal point for new design developments using the company's core technology. The job will require understanding the development objectives and applying strong fundamental engineering expertise to support the design of the product. There are huge opportunities for growth within Calnetix, so we are also seeking someone with a strong work ethic and dynamism. In this position you will execute the design for designated projects from inception through the specification, design, fabrication, validation and testing of development, while taking advantage of the expertise of the core engineering team from a design technical perspective. Responsibilities Application of engineering principles and established engineering norms to design. Conceptualization of new designs based on existing proven designs and innovations. Evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability. Ensure optimum manufacturing efficiency and costs in design. Lead mechanical designs and strive for cohesive machine architecture, communicating such through 2D and 3D layouts, FEA simulations, hand calculations. Document design developments and present at design reviews. Design contribution to the core engineering team and development in new areas of expertise. Technical oversight (including design tradeoffs, manufacturability, stack-up analyses, etc.) and review of designs for both internal and external reviews. Support technical risk identification, mitigation plans as well as development and execution of alternate design approaches. Ensure timely completion of project design deliverables, including design drawings, analysis and other documentation as required. Take design ownership on projects and be the engineering sign-off on mechanical drawings. Must be flexible and willing to go beyond general job responsibilities. Qualifications Mechanical Engineering Degree with 10 years of relevant experience. Experience in high-speed rotating equipment design. Experience in rotor dynamics and API 617, bearings, seals, couplings. Experience in aerodynamics (compressor, expander design) is a plus. Proficiency in SolidWorks. Hands-on engineer with the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into practice. Hands-on troubleshooting capability including the use of standard inspection tools and the ability to do spot check inspections on shop floor of critical components. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Understanding of engineering material selection and how to apply. Experience and capability of performing FEA analyses: static a must, non-linear a plus. Experience designing to meet thermal, environmental, and dynamic requirements a plus. Strong practitioner of GD&T. Pressure vessel design in accordance with
ASME VIII.
Familiarity with MIL-STD-810.
