About This Role:
The Tooling & Fixture Engineer is a senior technical contributor responsible for conceiving, designing, and sustaining the full suite of production tooling and fixtures that support Crusoe's modular integrated buildings and power distribution product lines. This role sits within the Manufacturing Engineering organization with a dotted-line relationship to the Design Engineering team, ensuring that tooling strategies are tightly coupled with product architecture decisions from the earliest design stages through steady-state production. At the senior/staff level, you are expected to own the tooling roadmap end-to-end: setting standards, mentoring junior tooling engineers, and driving
DFM/DFMA
influence upstream into the product design process. This is a full-time position critical to our ability to scale high-performance computing infrastructure.
What You'll Be Working On:
Tooling Roadmap Ownership:
Define and maintain a multi-generational tooling and fixture strategy aligned with product roadmaps for modular buildings, low voltage switchboards, and medium voltage switchgear.
End-to-End Tool Design:
Lead the design of complex jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, and test tooling from concept through fabrication qualification using SolidWorks ; manage GD&T schemes to ensure repeatable assembly outcomes.
DFM/DFMA/DFMx Integration:
Serve as the primary tooling voice in Design for Manufacturability and Assembly reviews, identifying risks early and advocating for design changes that reduce fixture complexity and cost.
Fabrication Vendor Management:
Source, qualify, and technically manage tooling fabrication vendors; define acceptance criteria, manage first-article inspections, and resolve non-conformances.
Standards & Documentation:
Establish company-wide standards for fixture design, work instructions, and tooling lifecycle documentation across all product lines.
Manufacturing Process Integration:
Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to validate that tooling integrates cleanly with assembly sequences, ERP BOMs, and work order structures.
Continuous Improvement:
Analyze assembly defects and technician feedback to identify tooling-driven root causes; implement permanent corrective actions.
Mentorship:
Coach and review the work of mid-career and junior tooling engineers; provide technical direction on complex fixture design problems. What You'll Bring to the
Team:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent discipline.
Experience:
8+ years of tooling, fixture, and production equipment design experience, ideally with structural metal fabrications or high-power electrical equipment.
Technical Mastery:
Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM , including weldments, sheet metal, and large-assembly management. FEA knowledge for fixture validation is a plus.
GD&T Mastery:
Strong command of
ASME Y14.5
as applied to fixture datums and workpiece locating schemes.
Fabrication Knowledge:
Deep understanding of precision machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication processes as they pertain to tooling construction.
Process Orientation:
Demonstrated ability to design systems that reduce cycle time, error-proof critical operations, and enable scalable production rates.
Safety and Compliance:
This position is designated a safety-sensitive position and/or is located in a safety-sensitive facility. Drug and alcohol program participation is required.
Bonus Points:
Master's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering. Experience with tooling design for modular buildings, switchboards, or data center infrastructure. Familiarity with IEC, UL, or NFPA standards related to electrical equipment assembly. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification. Experience with ERP/MRP systems for tooling lifecycle and spare parts management. Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT credential.
Benefits:
Competitive compensation and equity packages Restricted Stock Units Paid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance Employer contributions to HSA account Paid parental leave Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability Professional development & tuition reimbursement Mental health & wellness support Commuter benefits (parking & transit) Cell phone stipend 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary Volunteer time off Global travel insurance & emergency assistance Daily meals allowance Additional perks & programs specific to location
Compensation Range:
Compensation will be paid in the range of up to $141,000 - $162,000 + Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
