Position Overview:
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer operates in a global engineering environment supporting the design and productization of mechanical, electrical, and structural data center infrastructure. This role leads mechanical design across new product development, continuous improvement, and existing product lines, with a strong focus on 3D CAD modeling, assemblies, manufacturing documentation, and BOM structures. You will work independently with minimal oversight while partnering with Principal Engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs aligned with performance, safety, cost, and schedule objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop 3D CAD models, detailed parts, and complex assemblies for data center infrastructure products Create complete 2D drawings including dimensions, GD&T, tolerances, and specifications Design new components and improve existing designs with focus on reliability, safety, manufacturability, and cost Build and maintain accurate BOM structures for mechanical and electrical assemblies Apply DFM/DFA principles and consider fabrication methods such as sheet metal, machining, weldments, and bus bars
Project Execution & Documentation:
Generate manufacturing and fabrication drawing packages aligned with specifications and standards Support engineering system setup including CAD structure, part numbering, and configurations Load BOM and material data into ERP/MRP systems Compile technical submittals for internal review and customer release Manage document control, revisions, and engineering change processes Coordinate deliverables to support project schedules, manufacturing timelines, and on-time delivery Track progress and organize all engineering documentation
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Support Principal Engineers and Product Leads on project-specific configurations Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to resolve design challenges Work with vendors and fabrication partners to refine designs and specifications Provide technical input to project managers on scope, schedule, and risk
Testing, Validation & Continuous Improvement:
Participate in testing and validation of assemblies and components across fit, form, function, thermal, structural, and safety requirements Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for design-related issues Contribute to CAD standards, templates, libraries, and design review improvements Help refine engineering processes, guidelines, and best practices
Senior-Level Contributions:
Manage multiple projects independently with minimal oversight Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers and drafters Support value engineering, cost reduction, and product standardization initiatives
Key Competencies:
Advanced 3D CAD expertise including Creo, AutoCAD, Fusion, Inventor, and
SOLIDWORKS
with complex assemblies and configurations Strong mechanical design fundamentals, GD&T, and manufacturing documentation Knowledge of data center infrastructure including HVAC systems, switchgear, low voltage assemblies, enclosures, bus systems, and cable routing Experience with BOM management, change control, and document systems Strong problem solving, analytical thinking, and structured design approach Effective communication and collaboration across engineering and operations teams High ownership, attention to detail, and process discipline
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, Associate degree with strong experience considered 5+ years of mechanical design or product engineering experience in industrial, mechanical, or electrical equipment Proficiency with 3D CAD tools including Creo, AutoCAD, Fusion, Inventor, or
SOLIDWORKS
Strong experience with mechanical drawings, tolerancing, and manufacturing documentation Experience managing BOMs, ERP/MRP systems, and document control environments Ability to work independently while meeting quality, schedule, and documentation expectations Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with data center infrastructure, switchgear, and enclosure design Background in large and complex CAD assemblies and design modifications Familiarity with UL/IEC standards Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and fabrication processes Knowledge of ECO/ECN workflows and formal change management systems Experience in global engineering or multi-site manufacturing environments Team-oriented and adaptable to evolving project needs
