Position Objective:
ITW Drawform & Sexton is a $200M USD Division within Illinois Tool Works' Automotive Segment. It has an excellent reputation for delivering top results and exceeding customer expectations within the deep draw and aerosol can industries. The Tool Design & Manufacturing Engineer supports tooling design, process improvement, product changes, and manufacturing engineering activities in a high-volume deep drawn manufacturing environment. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, practical problem-solving ability, and the willingness to work closely with Toolroom, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve manufacturing performance.
Essential Functions:
Support the design, modification, and improvement of tooling, gages, fixtures, and related manufacturing components. Assist with tooling concepts and design improvements for deep drawn, transfer press, and progressive die applications. Review and update tooling prints, part prints, CAD models, and technical documentation. Partner with Toolroom, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to troubleshoot tooling and process issues. Support manufacturing process improvement activities focused on safety, quality, productivity, scrap reduction, downtime reduction, cost reduction, and process reliability. Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, capability, quality, and overall operational performance. Support APQP, PFMEA, control plans, process flows, ECR / ECN activity, BOMs, routings, work instructions, and related manufacturing documentation. Assist with new product launches, process changes, product changes, production trials, and manufacturing feasibility reviews. Perform other duties as required or requested.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design, Industrial Technology, or related technical discipline; equivalent hands-on technical experience may be considered. 5+ years of experience in tool design, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, tooling, stamping, machining, or related manufacturing environment. Experience with tooling or process support for ICOP - transfer presses (US Baird, Waterbury Farrel, Minster presses) and/or progressive presses preferred Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, tooling prints, part prints, and specifications. CAD experience such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar design software. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand tooling, machines, part geometry, and manufacturing processes. Previous Project Launch and Project Management experience preferred Willingness to learn and expand skills across tooling design, manufacturing engineering, product engineering, and process development.
Compensation Information:
