Job Description

Senior Mechanical EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical building systems for commercial and industrial projects. The successful candidate will produce detailed HVAC, piping and ductwork designs, perform pressure and performance calculations, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure systems comply with applicable codes and project requirements. This role includes technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and interfacing with clients and contractors to drive projects from concept through construction.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead the mechanical design and engineering for HVAC, plumbing, piping and ductwork systems across medium to large-scale projects.

Prepare and review detailed design drawings and specifications using Revit and other
BIM/ CAD
tools, ensuring constructability and coordination with other disciplines.

Perform heating, cooling, airflow and pressure calculations, pump and fan selections, and energy modeling to validate system performance and efficiency.

Develop and review piping and duct routing, sizing calculations, and pressure drop analysis for reliable system operation.

Ensure compliance with local and national codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, local building codes) and incorporate applicable sustainability and energy-efficiency requirements.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work and supporting professional development.

Coordinate with clients, architects, structural and electrical engineers, contractors and vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure successful project delivery.

Prepare engineering reports, equipment lists, cost estimates, and construction support documentation; respond to RFIs and perform site visits during construction to resolve field issues.

Drive continuous improvement by implementing best practices in mechanical design, BIM workflows, and quality assurance processes.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters degree preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable time preferred.

Minimum 7+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, including HVAC and piping system design.

Proven experience with Revit (BIM) for mechanical systems design; strong proficiency in AutoCAD is a plus.

Demonstrated expertise in HVAC system design, ductwork and piping layout, pressure/flow calculations, pump and fan selection, and energy analysis.

Familiarity with pressure calculations, fluid dynamics principles, and related simulation or calculation tools.

Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, local building codes) and experience applying them to design.

Excellent technical writing, presentation and communication skills; ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to meet deadlines.
