at Insight Global in Newark, Delaware, United States Job Description Job Description Our electronic manufacturing client is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design and improve automated manufacturing equipment. This role will lead the mechanical design of automation projects across multiple manufacturing sites and work closely with a partner team in China to support equipment build, testing, and rollout. This position focuses on designing and commissioning automated equipment for discrete manufacturing processes. Work will include upgrading existing machines as well as creating new, custom-built equipment. You will use 3D modeling, PDM tools, and simulation to support designs and apply Lean Automation methods to improve layouts and processes. This role will take equipment from early concept and prototype through full production deployment. Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop custom, first-of-a-kind automated equipment to meet business and manufacturing needs
  • Create modular machine designs that can be reused and easily modified
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, safety, and engineering teams to improve existing equipment
  • Provide mechanical layout and design support for manufacturing projects
  • Use 3D modeling, PDM systems, and simulation to support equipment design
  • Partner with site stakeholders to understand challenges and deliver automation solutions with minimal production disruption
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to design, build, test, and qualify equipment
  • Support capital projects, including design reviews, SOWs, acceptance testing, commissioning, and safety reviews
  • Contribute to automation assessments, technology roadmaps, and site improvements
  • Manage and support multiple projects at the same time as a technical expert
  • Support EHS activities, including investigations and follow-up actions
  • Participate in machine safety reviews and risk assessments during design and implementation
  • Develop and roll out equipment standards across the organization

  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin required
  • 10+ years of experience designing automated equipment in a discrete manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong experience with custom machine and automated equipment design
  • High proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Experience using product data management ( PDM ) systems
  • Hands-on experience with equipment fabrication (mechanical and/or electrical)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
  • Willingness to travel to China (~10%)
  • Experience with robotic or automation simulation tools ( ABB RobotStudio, KUKA .Sim)
  • Experience importing designs/models into Nvidia Omniverse
  • Background supporting capital equipment projects from design through commissioning
  • Experience standardizing or deploying engineering or equipment standards
