Job Description

About the Role Oak is seeking a Composites Engineer to lead the design, development, and manufacturing optimization of high-performance composite parts. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with a mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering degree who also understands how composite parts are actually built—whether via wet layup, infusion, or pre-preg processes. You'll work closely with technicians and operators to translate customer requirements into repeatable manufacturing processes, optimize part quality and cost, and ensure compliance with aerospace-grade quality standards. Experience with mold design, material selection, layup schedules, and post-processing techniques is essential. If you're just as comfortable on the shop floor as you are behind a screen, this is the role for you. Key Responsibilities Engineering & Manufacturing Support Interpret customer CAD models and drawings to develop layup plans and manufacturing methods. Define process parameters for wet layup, vacuum infusion, and pre-preg composite part production. Select materials (fabrics, cores, resins), cure cycles, and tool designs to meet structural and aesthetic requirements. Work with CAM or shop teams to nest and cut flat patterns for ply layup. Process Development & Optimization Develop and document layup schedules, vacuum bagging methods, and tooling prep procedures. Work with technicians to improve part consistency, reduce defects, and shorten cycle times. Implement feedback loops from quality inspection to adjust processes or tooling. Quality & Compliance Collaborate with QA to ensure parts meet customer specifications, including dimensional tolerances and visual standards. Support AS9100 or
ISO 9001
documentation and traceability requirements. Troubleshoot process-related defects and develop rework strategies when needed. Mold & Tooling Design (Preferred but not Required) Support or lead design of composite molds, trim tools, and bond fixtures. Assist with engineering existing customer parts and creating new tooling to improve them. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (required). 2+ years of experience in a composites manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of hands-on fabrication methods. Experience with wet layup, vacuum bagging, infusion, and/or pre-preg techniques. Familiarity with fiberglass, carbon fiber, and hybrid reinforcements ; and with various resin systems. Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, tolerancing, and layup/ply orientation instructions. Working knowledge of composite part finishing (e.g., trimming, sanding, bonding, painting) and mold prep.
Bonus:
Experience in reverse-engineering physical parts to generate tooling or molds. Familiarity with aerospace or automotive composite quality standards. Why Join Oak? Impactful Role - Help define and refine the processes that shape critical components for aerospace and defense. Hands-On Engineering - Work shoulder-to-shoulder with expert technicians and see your ideas come to life. Career Growth - Develop specialized skills in advanced composite manufacturing. Collaborative Culture - Join a team of experts dedicated to precision, quality, and innovation. Ready to Join?
