  • Orlando, FL This opportunity offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams supporting Grid Solutions projects such as substations and overhead transmission lines, while helping develop critical civil infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges.
Civil Engineering Technicians contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of site development, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities for advanced industrial and commercial facilities. The Staff Civil Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation. This role also provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. Position Overview Functions in a project engineering technician capacity. Under general direction, supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables. Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions. Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables. Provides technical guidance and may offer direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. Required Skills Must have Civil 3D grading experience. Key Responsibilities Applies knowledge of industry standards, systems, document control procedures, departmental guidelines, applicable codes, and company policies and procedures. Reviews project requirements and accurately determines the format and content of required deliverables. Proactively applies quality standards to deliverables while demonstrating attention to detail and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable project codes and standards. Applies basic engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Exercises judgment in interpreting inputs and making decisions related to assigned deliverables. Handles challenging technical assignments within an area of expertise and provides technical guidance to other professionals. Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation. Reviews the work products of others as needed. May define work assignments and maintain project schedules. May participate in control system programming, startup activities, or other specialized technical assignments. Coordinates with other design disciplines to exchange project information necessary for design development. May support field activities. Focuses on internal client needs while understanding external client objectives and business drivers. Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of emerging technologies and industry best practices. Education Preferred Qualifications Diploma or Certificate required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field preferred. Minimum Qualifications Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related work experience. Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment requirements, which may include a background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle records review, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
