Mechanical Engineer 2

Employment Type:
Contract Role Overview This role involves the design of moderately complex structural components and functional systems. The position requires working from preliminary studies developed by other engineers, analyzing requirements for materials and components, and computing engineering characteristics consistent with specifications. The successful candidate will develop original ideas, elaborate on design concepts, and collaborate with technical groups to achieve an ideal design. Key Responsibilities Perform design of moderately complex structural components and functional systems. Apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to solve complex component and sub-assembly challenges with limited supervision. Establish requirements for materials, structural components, and functional systems. Release results as design data after review by other engineers. Document the results of all design activities. Respond to requests in a timely manner and make suggestions for work improvement.
Required Qualifications Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with 2 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering is required.
Experience:
Experience in the design of structural components and functional systems is necessary.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software. Knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). The ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship, is a prerequisite. Preferred Qualifications A current active Security Clearance. Working knowledge of NX software. Knowledge of general machine shop fabrication processes, with additive manufacturing experience being desirable. Understanding of Design for Assembly / Design for Manufacturing (DFA/DFM). Knowledge of additive manufacturing, materials, and manufacturing of metallic structures or composites. Ability and willingness to travel. Compensation & Benefits The anticipated pay range for this position is $65.00 to $85.00 per hour.
